Rethinking Banning

Hi, I was recently temporarily banned for 1 day for leaving . During that time no one knew what had happened or why I wasn't on for a day. Now this was just for a day but imagine if it was for a week or something longer. Now I just wondered if it would be possible that for "soft" bans like these if you could just prevent the player from playing games of any kind instead of stopping them from logging in completely. This way the person would be able to chat with their friends and tell then what happened. You could do it like the dodge queue bans but instead of minutes days.

It would also allow them to take advantage of sales. I don't really see a problem with this.

"I was wondering if I got banned, if I could get all the privileges and benefits of being a player, despite being banned." Then...what exactly is the point of being banned. You don't like being banned for leaving games, seems best to not leave games. It's against summoner's code and it screws over 4 people trying to win a game. Why do you deserve sympathy after you showed no sympathy for 4 other people, again? :/

I'm not sure it's possible to differentiate between forms of bans (a ban is a ban is a ban, after all), but if it is, I wouldn't mind seeing something like this specifically for Leaverbuster bans. In fact, I'd go a step further and say I wouldn't mind allowing solo-custom games even during Leaverbuster ban periods. Since Leaverbuster itself ignores custom games, allowing a player to still make those kinds of all-bot solo matches would let banned players verify their connection and stability before jumping back into matchmade games.

But, as I said, I'm not sure it's possible, and I specifically don't like the idea in relation to toxicity bans.

You are banned from the game. Chatting is part of the game. Not sure why you have a hard time understanding why you shouldnt be allowed to chat while still being banned. Also being banned should exclude you from sales as its punishment.
