Philosophy behind Kalista is upsetting to the feels

I may be bitching for bitching sake, but I'm upset over Kalista's apparent play style. She seems to be heavily dependent on her team, so much so that she is given an item and a spell (her ultimate no less) that COMPLETELY depends on her team. Awhile ago, my favorite support was reworked for this same reason: Karma relied too heavily on her team mates to do well. So they changed her. Why suddenly change philosophy and design a character than can't even use her ult without a team mate-and the item, if permanent, is even MORE reliant. It means that kalista can basically ONLY adc (which is fine, but Riot always wants each game to feel different-there won't be much diversity here!). I think Kalista's idea seems new and very fun to try to work in, but it goes against the things that riot has said in the past. Any thoughts?
