I'm noticing a consistent theme with the requests for player input regarding the mage update...
I've read pretty much all of the threads so far in the Dev Corner regarding player input for the mage update, and I'm noticing one thing consistently with all of them:
Riot is paying attention to how people play these champs, but not why people play them that way.
I've seen this to varying degrees in all of the threads so far, with two particular examples standing out:
: The original post commented that 'Twin Fang is core to her identity'. This directly reflects how people play her and how people think about her. It blatantly ignores however why this is the case. It isn't because it fits her theme (it really doesn't, especially if you look at her theme on release), it's because it is the only efficient way for her to deal damage. The first Cassiopeia rework turned her into an anti-infantry artillery unit, and people play her that way now because that's the only way to do decent damage on her.
: This wasn't as much in the original post, but it's been stated multiple times that 'people play Zyra support more than they play Zyra mid'. This is true, but it directly ignores why this is the case. A decent percentage of people who play her would prefer her mid (I noticed a link to a Reddit poll indicating that it's by a factor of roughly 2/1 in favor of mid), but they play her support because she is significantly easier to play safely there.
I'm all for data driven decisions, but they're meaningless if you don't understand why the data is as it is.
