At the end of season 4 I was at Gold 5 30 lp or so. I just finished my placements and went 7/3 and I got placed in Silver 2. From what I know these are just like normal games but are worth more. I though if I got a set of games like I did I would go up in the ladder not down. Why was I demoted so hard when I won four more than I lost?

Riot implemented changes a few months ago where you'd be incapable of dropping out of silver, gold, or I think plat 5. Once you got accepted to any of the non-professional league tiers your ranking was safe from going to a lower tier.
Which is probably to blame for the upset of tier 5 players dropping out of said tier this season. Your MMR probably dipped to a level you would've gotten the boot out of Gold V and Silver 1 last season. Possibly Silver 2, and you might have gained some ground by running 7/3 in placements.
Anyways - I'm 99% certain the rank safeguard is to blame for the sudden rank dip for all the tier V players posting stuff now.
