I just had a player tell me he would risk being banned if i eloboosted him to gold...

The desperate attempts to be lazy and ask somebody else to do your work for you is pretty pathetic. Eloboosting is bad in way more ways than you might recognize as an average player.

Here is why;

You dont get the feel good experience when somebody elses hard work pays off
You risk a ban (riot can see your ip when you play, when you randomly swap ips across a country they know something is wrong)
What do you think happens when you get boosted? You obviously arent good enough for that rank and you start to fall anyways.
You go into a gold game as a silver or bronze player, you will be abused and you will probably feed. This not only wastes your time but also wastes the time of your 4 team mates who actually did the work to climb to that rank.

Seriously, don't boost. Its not worth it and i know from experience when a player has been boosted, it sucks to play with or even against.

Elo-boosting is the practice of having a skillful player (say diamond rank) play several matches on your account in order to get promoted up from a lower tier to around where they play. It is ban worthy and heavily frowned upon because it is cheating and the new rank you have is actually fake. Riot makes it explicitly clear that account sharing is prohibited, and cheating is also prohibited. Most of the time, people who offer to elo-boost are scammers trying to make a quick buck since they know you'll get punished but they won't be traceable.

If anyone ever offers to elo boost you, turn them down on the spot. If you are ever tempted to elo boost, just remember that you are culpable for your actions and will almost invariably get banned, leaving you without an account and with the hollowness of knowing the boost didn't make the game better for you in any way.

Same can happen even with real player: your mains reworked or nerfed, your counters buffed. You're feeding and falling.

Boosting is not a root of evil. Give other divisions feeling that they're good too. Give them unique rewards too.

Fact of the matter is, they aren't anything exceptional. Silver 5 is about average. Why should someone get rewarded for being average? it's called a reward for a reason, you need to strive for that extra push. It's motivation to play and climb.

Exactly, for example you dont give the world championship prize pool to the lowest team in bronze 5, because they havent worked as hard for it.

giving people that have put effort into your game, but arent good, similar rewards shouldnt be frowned upon. im not saying give everyone victorious skin, but why not a "you tried" unique skin? a new judgement skin every year would make me feel 10x more rewarded for my longevity of play, if not my skill.

It's a competition man, not everyone can get the big prizes. In this case, your "you tried" prize is your summoner icon, and your border if you got silver. Then you get an actual prize for making some sort of an accomplishment. I'm not trying to be mean, im just a realist and that's the way things are. There has to be winners and losers to each competition.

Well, gold is top 29%ish. That changes depending on what point in the season it is though. Being better than 70% of players worldwide I'd argue is where it starts to be something meaningful or respectable. I liked the idea they were tossing around where higher tiers get different chromas on the victorious skin though, so as to differentiate them a bit more. Also, what do you mean "what's this for?"

I mean all this rewards were made not occasionally. They were made to keep flow of players. To be honest there is no difference between Bronze and Diamond without rewards. Only Challengers and Masters are playing with top-players and participating in championships. For most players it's unreachable high things. So only rewards, that let them compare themselves with other players, are keeping them motivated to play this soloQ slaughter.

Then why don't make more rewards?

You do get rewards, you get the summoner icon for bronze, the summoner icon and the boarder for silver, the icon, border, skin for gold, and better icons and borders for the rest of the way up. It's better rewards the higher up you are.

I think in that case gold is kind of the equivalent to the third place trophy in a sense. You get the border and a skin. Plat gets the skin and a better border and icon, and so on and so forth all the way up until rank one challenger. I'd say reaching top 29% of players globally counts as some kind of an achievment, which is where gold puts you. Although I do think challenger people probably need something more for what they do.

I'd support giving some kind of improved reward to silvers (not bronzes) for reaching a minimum number of wins (not games).

I agree that lower tiers should at least get a border but getting to gold really isnt all that hard you just have to keep playing. I always see players cry about elohell yet they have less that 200 games played and their match history shows all normals. Gold is overrated. The harder elos you will soon see are the ones that are corrupted by eloboosted players where it really is luck to get matched with a team of all plat v+ players.

If he's not a RL contact and you were only discussing online, then toss in a scrunched up nose wriggle in the direction of your monitor for extra disapproval.

I have to somehow disagree with what you say, for me at least. It doesn't suck playing against higher elo, you tend to learn a lot on why you never made it to that higher elo in the first place. Before there was a restriction on divisions, back when a bronze player can play with plat or even higher. I remember duoing with a plat / diamond friend, and I lost terribly, but I started to notice the skill required in order to make it to plat. That same season I went from being in bronze straight to gold. and then from gold to plat the next season. It was a learning experience, and I was glad that I got to duo with my plat / diamond friend because it taught me how to get better at the game, and I would've never made it to plat 2 / 1 if I never duo'd with him that day.

I get that, 1. but its not like that is going to happen overnight. Also, 2. you can still do that in normal's. 3. It sucks for the other players in the game. 4. You wrong. 5. 6. pickup sticks.

Im asuming you are on a new account because if you are seriously commenting about "not being good enough" thats ridiculous. Anybody under level 30 wont be good enough untill they learn the base grounds of the game. Keep playing and you will get better, thats just how it has to be. If you got a reward for being at the lowest elo possible it wouldnt be fair to those who have shoveled thousands of hours into the game. And for being "content locked" its one skin, this skin is likely on a champion that you will never play or hardly ever play, and think about when you are in a game just how often you notice what a skin looks like. Not often probably, you block that kind of stuff out and become blind to it.

Guess I'm going to go and complain to a pro football player that it isn't fair that I'm not in a big team, I mean, these teams shouldn't be locked to me just because I'm not good enough at footbal right?

They are rewards, rewards have to earned. How do you think a dude that worked his ass off to get in gold, got the reward, and then saw his bronze dude who got boosted and got the reward aswell... I'd be pretty "Well... fuck.. that ain't fair".

The fact you don't care about the rank aggravates the issue further.

"I don't even care about football, I just really want that big paycheck at the end of the month"

i didn't ask for the victorious skin, but i have made many posts over the years asking for the judgement skins to be continued, because would giving the whole community a unique skin once a year doesn't seem like it would be too much for riot to accomplish.

i have more summoner icons than i will ever use, but i eventually play every skin.

my problem lies in the fact its the SINGLE skin a year that is released to the community for free, and that its The Unique skin that releases a year. the only skin i cant come back next year and get.

it feels unfair that its the Only Unique Locked Skin. a year.

Whats up with the accounts that seem legit (have a lot of normal wins and ranked games played) but were plat and now drop to gold or silver? In my mind there is no way in hell that player did not script or get elo boosted. I had an Ashe on my team last night (different account) who had like 1900 normal wins, 850 ranked wins. The player had a plat border so Plat at end of season 5 (nov 11?). Now the player is playing with my account (silver 2) and is currently sitting with hardly any LP in gold 5. Like... there is no way in hell that player intentionally tried to drop elo that much is there? Like the Ashe sucked ass and was playing at maybe a silver 3 or 4 level. I reported them after the game for cheating saying they had to be elo boosted or scripted to originally climb to Plat. There is no way someone can throw that hard for that many games. And if it is a legit account then how the fuck are they not banned for intentionally ruining that many ranked games? I mean... we ended up winning but it had nothing to do with our Ashe.

Just curious as I have seen these players a lot over the last 3 years. Most commonly I see a recent plat player playing in silver at the start of a new season. I realize some people intentionally do bad in promos to drop and climb again but honestly most of those players suck as well. I feel like I have to assume most of them got elo boosted and now are just getting wrecked because they actually suck.

This sounds to me like somebody sold their account. Most likely what happened.

Not only that, but after you get boosted, you either need to keep getting boosted to stay where you are or you fall back to your previous rank, meaning either way you're risking a ban for no reward. If you actually stay at the new rank, then you've wasted your money and risk a ban getting yourself boosted since you would have gotten there anyway.

The only reason people eloboost is for season rewards like the Victorious skins, you're supposed to sit at gold and never rank again
