Roles/champion identities that can't be fullfilled on other maps (with the exception of TT, with VAST DIFFERENCES to SR gameplay):
Jungling (much different in TT, it actually kindof sucks)
Midlaning
Toplaning
Duolaning
Splitpushing (which you already conceded)
Things different in just ARAM, which keeps you from really learning champions strengths/weakness if you only play ARAM:
Flanking in Teamfights
Stealth champs play completely different in ARAM
Ganking
Roaming
1 3 1 pushing
PVE objective control (Baron, dragon)
Map control
Warding
So many champions in the pool have these as built in strengths/weaknesses, if you really don't play SR then in my opinion you can't really say you've "Mastered" anything.
Not my intention to be offensive, just being honest. Happy to continue discussing this though.
I can only agree on a few points that you mentioned, when it comes to mastering a champion:
Roaming
Stealth Champions
It's all clear that some champions are just insanely strong roamers compared to many others, and that champions that use stealth needs to adapt to the map. But the rest is more or less things you'd learn as regular gameplay and strategies. You don't have to master a champion to be any better at doing these things, unless you have mastered the STRATEGY itself.
The things that you listed are more all rounded playstyles, strategies and guidelines. They're all worth mastering, but only to the extent that it almost doesn't matter which champion you use (only to a certain extend, as in that you won't really pick Soraka and build her AD only to splitpush toplane all game, if a person is serious, common sense will be used), as you will still have the experience in the map and how to gank, roam, flank if you play Summoner's Rift more than a tiny bit.
I see what you are saying, but almost all of your points bring up further explanation for myself and on how learning a champion and learning gameplay and strategies generally is seperated to a certain point.
I play mostly ARAM to be able to chill, and I play on Summoner's Rift when I want to improve my ranking, improve my role(s)/lane(s) or even working on my common gameplay and getting a standard for whenever I jungle or such. But if I only want to play a champion, I might not do it on Summoner's Rift, I might instead just take it to The Crystal Scar and work on the gameplay and mechanics around it.
Also no offense taken, as I really wasn't insulted, as I see your scepticism, but it's just flowing over my head. You can call me bad for mainly playing Howling Abyss, but the fact still remains that no matter the map, no matter the mode, I'm still a great player, and it's not mechanics for the champions or anything. It's simply experience. You seem to have it as well, but I can't really tell if you've gotten anywhere with it. If you're forced to play vs Plats/diamonds every normal match just because of a higher winrate than the 50%.
