Because there were better choices. Maokai literally fell off the face of this Season early on without accomplishing much.
Why not someone like Ekko, who massively warped the state of the game repeatedly with an unintended tank build that beat through several months of wimpy nerfs.
Nidalee apparently saw the highest banrate this season alone for pro play across several regions while maintaining a respectable 54% winrate through the games she was played in. :^|
It's like getting an A on a reasonably difficult test and getting a clean napkin as a reward. It's a nice napkin sure, but you don't need it. :^|
What can the rest of us say who are sub-gold and getting diddly/squat? First world problems?
