because they just want to escape from their life of pain and misery and maybe try to bring some positive light into someone's life. They may recognize that this doesn't excuse all the horrible things they've done, and it's just a temporary relief, but for just forty minutes, they can believe they're a good person and there is something within them that deserves redemption.
