Ya but Malzahar has become primarily a support, which is why he is played support 76% of the time. In that champion matrix, he has more kills than the average support

The fact that Malzahar has to be played as a support to perform close to how he is supposed to instead of his intended role proves how bad things are. He's a Slayer (assassin) that needs a babysitter. The only difference is that he throws down the wards instead of the other person.

nah, it just means the meta has shifted where higher damage supports are more valuable (brand and velkoz are two other mage supports that have become more popular). His lockdown is incredibly useful in a 2v2 lane.

People agree that his rework missed the ideal outcome, but not because of lack of power. Malz's flaw in the rework is around the bad distribution of power in his kit the resulted in him losing his identity as the classic "anti-assassin" mid-lane bully. He's not weak, he's just lost his identity in a time for an already unfavorable meta shift
