That is because the rest of the world was cowering behind us like little children. It was the President of the United States of America who rallied the world, it was an American scientist that lowered their shields, and it was an American pilot who dealt the killing blow.
But we're the only ones who did it on a national holiday! Anywhere else, people would be like "Oh, but it's my day off! Let's do that tomorrow."
Because Americans are totally not lazy and entitled...
