Edit: actually, I think I used bork and titanic actives as well.

I agree with you (Guinsoo's is just freaking stupid-good on Yi, among pretty much every single auto-attack based champ), but I still throw item 3153 in-between those two, unless the enemy team is five squishballs and it's totally unnecessary. Also because it's just kind of satisfying to proc Guinsoo's effect almost instantly.

crit yi is way better than rageblade yi. I've seen a 1v1 between the two and crit yi just 2 shot the rageblade yi. though i almost always build rageblade yi because its way cheaper. with botrk that is. i rarely go tank after as i usually just build more ad. or tank if the other team is all ad or mostly. because buying one or two tank items still doesn't do much for me. still get deleted if 2-3 people focus you.

You can go either crit or the Bork route. I've played a freaking ton of Yi and tried a variety of stuff, and I find they're both about equally effective, and I wouldn't fault anyone for going Crit-Yi. I just kinda prefer Guinsoo's and Bork for the extra sustain and splash, but Crit-Yi has its obvious benefits. To put it another way, I've gotten those Master Yi pentas with both builds.

No matter what Yi build you go, though (short of some super-cheese-tank build), he's just gonna die if people focus him. You can run Mercurial if it gets really nasty and even Cleanse if you inadvertently run into someone like Rammus (one of his worst nightmares), but it only helps so much.

true you won't notice much different between how fast you kill squishies. but crit yi does way more damage. its just that. both do godly damage anyway. that a little more damage doesn't matter. the alpha strike is just stupid on crit yi.

Crit Yi's 1v1 damage is obscene, but Rageblade Yi is much harder to itemize against (barring a Rammus/Taric/Malphite Thornmail) because of his hybrid splash and on-hit damage

They both have their niches, I suppose

I main Yi and my usual build is devourer, bork, then ravenous, and then guinsoos, I don't like getting guinsoos early because I need the sustain from ravenous.

You gotta get that PROJECT: skin though and hit ult, ghost, and get buffed by running in the trail that follows those with Elixir of Iron, Sivir's ultimate, Righteous Glory active (I think?), fifth drag, Baron buff at base, Janna's Tailwind and Zephyr, Jayce's Acceleration Gate, Karma's Inspire, and MS runes and masteries (if there are MS masteries other than the river and jg one).

why would anyone buy gunblade on yi? the ap is not used. except for his W which doesnt scale well anyway. botrk is always the better option. and 2 lifesteal items is too much tbh

i've tried it I don't think it works as well as botrk. yi isn't like jax. after you play a match of yi. go and check the stats. from my experience. only 1/3-1/4 of the magic as yi is magic. rest is physical and little bit true. however jax is someone i buy gunblade on is because he does almost 50% magic damage and 50% physical damage. its more like 45/55 split. anyway. gunblade works well on him. meanwhile the botrk passive will end up in more heal from it.
