Infernal dragon is too weak.

ocean dragon- slow and do a lot of damage mountain dragon- slow but actually does damage air dragon- does damage but not as much as ocean infernal dragon- does miniscule damage for its attack speed why do you put the 2 best dragons (mountain and infernal) with the weakest attacks? mountain dragon should put walls around or something and infernal dragon should have a brand passive

Just for some actuall facts on dragons:

  • Infernal, ocean and cloud all have the same base dps and hp(infernal and ocean have 0.5 AS with 100 damage, cloud has 1.0 AS with 50 damagE
  • Dragon's basic attacks deal additional physical damage equal to 7% of the target's current health.
  • Cloud attacks twice as fast as the rest, so the current health dps is twice as high, makeing it the highest actuall dps.
  • Ocean has the same dps as fire, but slows
  • Fire and Mountain have aoe(which is pretty pointless unless you are elise with spiderlings or a bunch of idiots)
  • Mountain has lower base dps(0.25as, 150damage) and due to low AS also lower %current health dps, but therefor is a good bit tankier
  • all dragons have 30% arpen
  • dragon attacks count as spells, not AAs

What this does mean for the 4 dragons:

  • Cloud has the highest dps and thus is the hardest to solo, especially for hp based champs, and his high ms allows him some extra damage when you disengage
  • Ocean is not very hard to do, but pretty risky IF you get cought doing it due to the slow
  • Mountain is pretty easy to take, but takes more time so higher opportunity cost and more time for your opponents to react
  • Infernal just is easy and nothing else, cause the only thing it has going is the aoe, which can easily be avoided even by brainless apes

I didn't know (or notice apparently) that Mountain had AoE, I thought it was just Infernal that did. Good to know.

Also, Elise can avoid the AoE problem pretty easily by walking to the other side of the Dragon after getting the spiderlings to attack.

Ramen2262 votes

I mean lets be honest you can barely notice the AoE anyways..

aoe is a problem in dragon taking scuffles where fights break out around dragon

To be honest, i think that is balanced around the fact that mountain and infernal are the one that being the most powerful should also be the more contested ones, so the AoE is going to matter when in theory fights would erupt around dragon pit and drake attack the aggroed champs

Most junglers can do infernal drake solo quickly enough, but often you would send multiple people to secure it as fast as possible and avoid enemy to have a chance to contest

Sire Hippington1 votes

Just that even with 5 people in the pit, the aoe of those dragons is really easy to avoid, and ideally all dragons are

i think that is balanced around the fact that mountain and infernal are the one that being the most powerful

If that actually is the case, then riot admits with that that they are incapable of balanceing the 4 dragons against each other and that's a bit sad. The declared aim with of the elemental dragons was that they are prettymuch equally strong, with priority based on teamcomp. If there is a clear tier order for dragons independend of teamcomps, then the balanace of dragons celarly failed.

Not necessarily

I mean when you are offered 4 different options, unless they are all exactly the same option masked as 4 different ones (which would be meaningless and even worse because it would upset people), there is always going to be a favorite one... which does not mean that it isn't balanced with the others or the favorite choice is the most efficient

Tbh, it's easy to see why "+% AD/AP" is a snappier concept to spread and seems more desirable on paper than the other options (and +% damage on towers" is the next one in the order ), and thus you could consider also this thing when balancing, but that doesn't mean automatically the other options are bad

For example, if the enemy team has a Lux with Morello + Luden and/ or a Teemo with their annoying as fuck AoE/DoT effects, it is better to have those ocean/double ocean buff because f**k off their cancerous thing, thanks to that I'm not going to get poked and then burned down by their obnoxious spells while I get in position to wreck them, than those infernal or mountian buff that seems more desirable but I can't use because I can't get my hands on them...

Actually you can get them at 3, but it wastes a lot more time. Get to 3, back, buy a control ward and a health potion, and he can solo any drake at 3

Earth drake is the worst one

There was a buff to cloud drake its like 90% of playerbase missed it

CatchMyDaggers1 votes

No they didnt. So you wanna say that it is more important to go faster than killing the fking BARON and the OBJECTIVES quickly. That does not make any sense.

Auz the Ripper2 votes

You underestimate the power of rotation and flanking.

CatchMyDaggers1 votes

And you underestimate the power of objective controll. Like think about it, would you prefer having 3 mountains or having 3 air drakes. With 3 mountain drakes you can do baron in like 4 seconds while with 3 air drakes... you go faster...out of battle. Yes you can flank but it wont really matter.

Auz the Ripper2 votes

I would totally prefer the air drakes. Air drakes give map control and map control prevents objective control from ever being an issue

tbh ocean is useles out of laning phase, cloud can determine an escape or kill

crippler384 votes

ocean can keep you from backing for a long time, which lets you keep pressure up longer.

In low elo, this is a trap though, since it causes people to over stay a lot. :P

crippler381 votes

what's not a trap in low elo? be honest.

"Oh we just wiped the floor with them, let's keep pushing mid lane."

"Another wave just came in."

item 3085 item 3100 give me more scaling, let's buy them before we have any damage items.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Ashe Jhin Runaan's is a damage item now. ;p

crippler381 votes

Doesn't it just add scaling to ashe?

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

kind of. her AA's and E deal <crit>% bonus damage on frosted targets. So it effectively turns crit chance into raw damage. Since Ashe doesn't have AD scaling on her ult or use DFT, it is effectively the same as Jhin's Crit → AD conversion.

Ocean is actually really strong. It's power is hidden though. Kind of like auras.

the infernal drake should attack with a constant stream of fire, burning everyone in the area

Bârd10 votes

That... that actually sounds fun.

"Fuck you, fuck your aggro management, I'm burning this pit to the ground"

RainbowIcee1 votes

I think in general it should hurt a lot more, in fact all of them. I don't feel they should be solo'd in the early stages of the game.

The Deckowner11 votes

most meta junglers can solo infernal pre-6, just shows how strong it is.

Lee can do it level 3. Nunu can do it without backing to shop also at lvl 3

Tobias Brackner9 votes

Ocean and Air are best dragons.

Sinister Anubis2 votes

i disagree infernal helps win fights mountain helps take towers and baron and other dragons.

Tobias Brackner9 votes

Infernal gives you 8 AD/AP if you have 100. While that is nice for people who cast spells/ attack quickly it really doesn't pan out to much until you get a second Infernal + Elder.

Ocean lets you win lane/siege Garen-style and Air allows you to easily outroam your opponents.

People greatly overstate the power of Infernal and Mountain Drake.

YumaS2Astral2 votes

Cloud is an early game dragon because the movement speed out of combat is really good to return to base, roam and rotate better and quicker. It is still useful late game, for example, you are trying to escape from a bunch of enemies or you are trying to contest objectives. Overall it falls off late game compared to its early power.

Ocean is another early game dragon. The sustain is good to win the lane phase. Unless you have more than one of it, it falls off late game, but if you have more than one of it, the extra sustain really helps during siege situations, and when you need to contest objectives.

Mountain Dragon does not really have a strong or weak phase. It is actually the only dragon which is equally useful at every stage of the game. This is because you are trying to take objectives and towers during the entire game. There is not a moment where this dragon falls off due to that reason.

As for Infernal dragon; it is a late game dragon, it is meant to be good by late game where you have a lot of AD and AP to take the most advantage possible of it. This dragon is not very useful early game because you don't have enough AD and AP. The only reason why it is heavily contested is to ensure that your enemy does not get it because it is really fantastic at late game.

Tobias Brackner3 votes

Roaming is just as powerful late game as it is early game, homie. Especially when both sides get wards up and start looking for picks or to rush down objectives.

Ocean gives % regeneration. You can turn an even fight/skirmish into a tower by waiting the few seconds for Ocean to kick in and patch you up regardless of how many stacks you have no matter what the stage of the game.

Personally I find Ocean and Cloud to be the strongest.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Trundle More regen please! XD

this. im pretty sure rito even came out with statistics not too long ago, where it showed that Wind drake has the highest win %, followed by ocean and then infernal, and that they are hesitant to nerf it because of that reason.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Wow, so the whole "infernal is strongest" is just a meme then?
