he may seem a little like no face but its not really that much... he's more of a princess mononoke

He was designed as a combo between the 2 films. Appearance has more Princess Mononoke vibe and kit has more Spirited Away.

While his appearance is taken from mostly Princess Mononoke, his outfit and how he flies (as shown in his little cinematic, if you remember Haku) however are more related to Spirited Away.

His kit on the other hand is very Spirited Away. Outside of the Meeps everything his kit does has some sort of special outworldy property (such as cross dimensional travel, summoning healing shrines, large scale teleportation as shown in the cinematic, stasis) which belongs to Spirited Away as it's a film set in the god's realm, unlike Princess Mononoke where magic is more or less minimalistic/implied yet can still be powerful, in a somewhat "realistic" sense.

So I say he qualifies as a Spirited Away character.

Should be a skin; Blood Moon Kindred.

Even better, seems to me like Kindred is the dead spirits of Gabu and Mei from One Stormy Night. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aJxMfao6Y7k/UDI_eeu5wgI/AAAAAAAAB-0/Yy4VWGp7itw/s400/one+stormy+night.png Still has a Miyazaki vibe to it, I love Kindreds design.

Considering he is also a River King/God.

But I guess he does resemble No Face in some personal habits (also maybe personality and shape) to some degree, after he devoured the frog.

Bard literally borders copyright infringement on Journey, and no one says anything.

Some of the animations are literally cut and paste.

I can only see that in maybe meeps (with Princess Mononoke) otherwise I don't think Bard has anything to do with copyright infringement. Bard is a homage, not exactly a stolen content.

Not to mention in Japan they don't seem to be overly sensitive about copyright issues like some places are, they mostly allow others to produce similar products using similar ideas as long as they try to have their spins on it (and maybe giving a nod to where it's inspired from somewhere in the product).

EDIT: I failed make myself clear earlier, I personally don't find him having any connection with the game Journey, only with 2 Miyazaki films.

Journey wasn't produced at all in Japan -- Journey was made by an American Indie company..

And no you clearly haven't really sat down and looked at it. You play the role of a cloth person, a faceless one of a kind being who is on a journey. You are the only one who can access an ancient form of power long lost to all civilization.

You literally gain mobility and twirl in journey after collecting a cloth scrap. The cloth is also sentient and characterized as somewhat sentient/needing guidance.

Just replace cloth with chime. There are literally only two gameplay features in Journey -- making chime noises, and gaining mobility from your unique one of a kind resource. Bard does both. Two bad you can't only make a kit with two abilities/an ability and a passive.

Yes I didn't make myself clear which I fixed with an EDIT.

Thing is, Journey is a game when your character is supposed to not have a defined appearance and you go about doing usual platforming things, clearly levels/objectives but with a twist of putting you in a highly pretty and symbolic setting.

Bard really isn't a copy of that, because you can't copyright concepts, genres or basic appearance etc.

I mean they literally copied animations from the game, and the speaks only in chimes thing.

Of course you can't copyright a concept, but it's very clearly inspired by that. Moreso than San and Kindred. Kindred and San literally have nothing in common other than having a wolf companion. She neither uses a bow, nor do the two have similar color scheme.

Bard literally takes every aspect from Journey, down to the animations, cololr scheme, and influences. Of course they slap a few things on top because you can't make a kit out of clothchimes and boop boop noises.

I was more in line of taking advantage of her mask, her general white-ish colour scheme and the wolf companions. Not to mention while she doesn't use arrows her bf (well...) does and is very proficient at it, it's his main source of attack until forced melee scenarios.

Bard literally takes every aspect from Journey, down to the animations, cololr scheme, and influences. Of course they slap a few things on top because you can't make a kit out of clothchimes and boop boop noises.

Not really, he's clearly inspired by Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke as opposed to Journey. He may have some animation effects and sounds similar to Journey but that doesn't warrant a reference.

Bard summons and attracts little meeps (or whatever they are), is able to teleport and access dimensional portal, is a god or something along the lines who is mostly neutral and doesn't really interfere with human affairs until it's proven to be disastrous which he appears to completely remove the cause etc etc. Those are his defining characteristics, which share more connections with those 2 film titles I mentioned than Journey imo.

Why is everything original instantly considered a reference or inspiration from entrance level garbage anime Ghibli films? There are ZERO similarities to any of these character posted in here. Ghibli didn't invent the "humanoid with a wolf companion" idea, or any other character design every one points out. Most of what the studio makes aren't even original ideas but actual mythical creatures.

Nothing is original these days, because we had exhausted the maximum potential for human imagination quite a long time ago. Nowadays innovation is referring to different and creative methods of execution on existing (and maybe forgotten) ideas. Not to mention you seem to have not watched more than 2 or 3 Ghibli creations, because Miyakaki's works vary from silence of life, war story, mythos&magic to post apocalyptic; and anything in between.

If you no like Ghibli films, that's cool but saying they're garbage is asking for fists in the face because they are certainly not.

Also first of all, this thread isn't entirely serious, anyone can see that, I posted this in the meme section and not say the story&art for a reason. Secondly, general appearance wise one can't just deny it saying that they have absolutely 0 connection to each other, at least not after you've seen the film. But really this is meant to be just a fun little thread, if you don't like it's cool but no need to hate.

I dunno why you would say Kindred is original. The lamb and wolf companionship (or something along the line of friendship between contrasting individuals) is not something that was not done before, nor is the "I split myself in half so I could always have a friend" something revolutionary.

you might wanna watch what you say. dont want you to wake up to someone standing over you now do ya. disrespecting Ghibli isnt the wisest decision one can make.

WeaselGod1 votes

They are awful. The only people who like Ghibli are people who haven't watched much anime, hence why I said it's entrance level anime. Comparing everything to Ghibli shows how ignorant you are and how Ghibli films are probably the only anime you've ever seen besides Pokemon.
