My knowledge of chemistry is limited, but one can assume that something in it's purest form would out way others...

NaCl isn't the only salt though, any acidic and basic compounds will neutralize and become a salt when they come in contact, lead diacetate is a salt that produces a sweet flavour for example, though eating it would be a bad idea.
