I'm not sure Nami would make a useful HM slave.

I wouldn't expect Nami to be able to use most of the other HMs except for Waterfall, and Surf and Waterfall are both pretty strong moves. They are both strong enough that you would actually consider giving them to someone who isn't an HM slave to use it as a battle move.

Then again, Pokemon has done some weird stuff with the HM's in the past, such as giving flightless birds that have no wings the ability to use Fly or giant armored reptile things the ability to use Surf.

I once taught my Charizard Fly. I made it sit with a Ditto in the pokemon daycare for a while and got myself an egg. When the egg hatched I had a Charmander that both knew, and could use fly! LOL! From then on I was sitting on the back of this tiny Charmander flying around the Johto region! Just remembering now is making me laugh!

well if we're talking about ruby saphire and emerald, she could learn dive as well, and likely cut. pretty sure anyone can learn cut.

Generally, it's Pokemon with some sort of claws or fangs that can learn Cut. Nami has neither, unless you count her staff as a "claw".

To be fair, some wingless pokemon could still Levitate and could theoretically allow for the move. I haven't played Pokemon since like Diamond/Pearl though so I'm not sure that's a valid reason anymore.

DPPtHGSS is where I stopped with competitive Pokemon, but check out the Pokemon Golurk. It is truly the most ridiculous Pokemon that can fly.

Well it is still technically flying type. Anyways I like the Pokemon Stadium running up into the air more.

Whirlpool and Dive have never been in the same games as HMs.

Whirlpool was in gen 2 and (if I'm not mistaken) hasn't been an HM in a game ever since, while Dive was introduced as an HM in gen 3 and hasn't been used much, if at all.

I know, but I was just saying if Nami actually did use item 3342 BubbleBeam/Aqua Prison in Poke-ay-mon it would make the opposing Pokemon flinch instead of stunning them.
