There are a few tips that people already know about facing a Yasuo; poke his shield off with autos, he's weakest right after his tornado is gone, and he's weak to ganks. I'd like to go into more detail.

The key to beating a Yasuo in lane is proper minion management, and proper management is different depending on whether you're a ranged or melee champion. As a ranged champion, you want to keep the wave in 1 of 2 places depending on Yasuo's health relative to yours. If Yasuo is ahead or even, you want to keep the wave frozen a bit outside of your own tower, so that he has to go into tower range to order to hit you. You can basically do whatever you want to him if the wave is in this spot because you can simply retreat into tower range if he tries to go onto you. However, if you're ahead of him in health, you want to start a slow push, so you can poke him whenever he tries to CS and you'll have a buffer of minion support if he tries to all in you. In this case, he can't do much either.

For a melee champion, you want to slow push pretty much all the time. Yasuo is extremely vulnerable to being all inned by melee champions when he's trying to CS, and a good Yasuo will try to do a slow push of his own to discourage his opponent from attacking him. One important thing to understand is that while enemy minions are oftentimes Yasuo's best friends since he uses them to dash, they are also one of his biggest weaknesses since he's required to tank them in order to trade. If you can bait him into tanking a lot of minions with some kind of defensive ability like an ori shield, you can very easily come out ahead in trades, provided you don't panic, keep autoing, and hit some extra free damage on him when he tries to get out.

Generally speaking, a Yasuo will always want the wave in 1 of 2 places. He either wants a slight minion advantage on his side so he can get free opportunities to poke with Q, but not so many more minions that the wave gets frozen outside the enemy tower. A good Yasuo will bait you into hitting minions with AOE abilities to push the wave back towards him if it starts to get too close to tower, allowing him to be aggressive again. The other position is for when Yasuo has a lead on his opponent; he will want to freeze outside of his tower, leaving a long trail of minions to dash through so he can all in you if you try to walk up to CS. The key to beating Yasuo is to keep the wave where you want it to be rather than the way he wants it to be, or there's not a whole lot you can do as a lot of champions.

Other general tips for beating Yasuo include: Ask for ganks, an aggressive Yasuo player is very easy to bait and kill if he isn't strong enough to 1v2 already. Take exhaust as a combat summoner if your kill pressure on him is low, it’s a great way to neutralize his aggression in lane as well as neuter him in teamfights. If Yasuo misses his tornado, that is the time to be aggressive. His Q is on CD, he has no CC for a while, and his ult, by extension, is unavailable. And if Yasuo gets too aggressive in lane and messes up when trying to trade, all in him right then and there. If you get a lead against Yasuo, most champions will be able to zone him out heavily since he's a squishy melee only champion with no escape and no natural sustain.

Yeah, when the counterplay tip to a champion looks about the size of a dictionary, it would probably help to summarize.

Dabrick014 votes

Proc His Shield.

Bait His Windwall.

Use Ganks to Get Ahead of Him.

Zone Him if You are Ahead.

See, I used to put this in threads but it became really boring and then people would argue with me about my summaries. So I just decided to start putting this essay where I can. It is detailed because of so many discrepancies I have with people.

So to the TlDr people, oh well, you have nothing better to do if you are on the boards.

EvilUnicornLord2 votes

Ok, I guess I should upvote you for bothering with my laziness. Thanks?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Well it shows it has a lot and not "none"?

Really for something like kha'zix... Stay near minions and allies... But you can't always do it anyways...

Maximum Morde2 votes

Tldr.

Astôlfo11 votes

That's not the point. He could be balanced or weak as shit. He's still one of the most fucking infuriating champions to play against. It just feels so exhausting and unfun.

Dabrick012 votes

Are you one of those TlDr people? If so i would suggest reading this. I have always felt like the only people who get a champs weaknesses are those people who play them. I would get screwed in game if every lol player would remember these few tips.

Astôlfo4 votes

Knowing how to play against him isn't the issue. Sure, I could learn said counter-methods better and just crush him every time. Having to play the matchup itself is what's infuriating due to the nature of his kit.

Spicy Rice2 votes

Because he constantly forces interaction? Would you rather have someone like nasus who tried to ignore you?

Kled INVADE IONIA THEY SAID, ITLL BE FINE THEY SAID

FINE THEY SAID!!!

The Aqualious4 votes

I know Yasuo is beatable... But when I play with my friends (most are a bit higher elo than I) the players are better and those Yasuo's are deadly

Dabrick012 votes

He has a massive skill cap and is insanely powerful if he gets fed. My points let you punish him before he gets the opportunity and lets you snowball the game, not Yas.

S0kaX2 votes

When the tips against a champion is the size of the Chinese Wall than it should be obvious he needs nerfs/a rework

Dabrick012 votes

Not true. If you look at my notes, you will see he has a bit of counter play. A lot more than some other champs that can fun-bush/ one-shot you like Zed, Leblanc, or Kat.

Yasuo is not meant to be a burst assassin. If he gets too fed, then you've fucked up and deserve what is coming to your team.

Also you are probably one of those TlDr people, but I would seriously read that. Its long but it is detailed.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

No, it means there are a lot of ways to deal with it, your argument is garbage.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

"couldn't make a proper response so made a meme"

I'm not even a yasuo main. 112k points one kha'zix with level 7 definitively is a yasuo main.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

You're kinda right but the thing actually is: those who propose these "counter methods" are bronze to gold. Sure you can bait a trash yasuo windwall or zone him or whatever. They obviously never played against a high elo yasuo main/otp. THAT's where my complain comes from. Good yasuo will decide the laning phase and that's the issue.

Knoyle3 votes

I'll be satisfied when yasuo gets nerfed to the point only his real mains will play him. Tired of the wannabes going 0/6 in lane then ragequitting :/

Dabrick013 votes

Yeah, but everyone has to start somewhere. I would hate for any champ to be unlearnable and unplayable and so would Rito.

Knoyle1 votes

Teemo is still learnable and playable. However the only ones who don't get destroyed playing him are the ones who took the time to improve with him.

noob0001111 votes

How r u suppose to push lane as a melee when he have insane wave clear. Ur whole argument is to manage minion wave but u cant do that bcz yasou is a manaless champ with high wave clear who can easily manage minion wave in his favor.

Dabrick012 votes

Love the name.

He does not have insane wave clear like some other ranged mages do. Try one of those or use one of my other tips. Yasuo has better waveclear than some mids, so try to find a champ that works for you.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

His wave clear is meh until he gets stattik at best.

noob0001111 votes

Ty Even if some mages got better waveclear they still need mana. Right now though he is perma ban in my elo so I m happy.

Kitty Cat Tosha4 votes

Thanks for the information, I actually did not know about the minion wave management trick yet. Will try it when I face a yasuo again

Dabrick013 votes

You are welcome, I'm glad someone is appreciative when I put those tips there. He's not easy to beat, but it is possible if you keep in mind those tips.

Kitty Cat Tosha3 votes

It does not help that I main a champion that yasuo is designed to counter, but maybe with your advice I'll get more of an edge against him.

Dabrick011 votes

Yeah, Vel is possible if you bait his windwall and get ganks, procing his shield should not be a problem.

I'm not really sure who to pick against Yasuo, but Vel is good if you are skilled enough with him. Just don't unload everything on him if you aren't sure if his windwall is up. He will block everyone of his abilities except for his ult.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

In fact if yasuo fails to dodge velkoz's things he's dunzo. No mr per level. AND windwall blocks nothing on vel's kit. Great pick against him.

Dabrick011 votes

Um, no.

His Windwall blocks all of his abilities. His Q is blocked of course. His W and E both count as projectiles so they are blocked. He just can't block his ulti.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I didn't know, woops

Dabrick011 votes

Yeah, until i played Yas into Vel, I didn't know how many of his abilities i could block until I went 9-0 in lane. Their Jg even came to gank and I doubled. A skilled Vel and Jg would have coordinated better and would have prob killed me. The didn't tho which was nice.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Well if you don't cc the Yasuo he can 1v2, just like mordekaiser too

Dabrick011 votes

Alright. You just said that Morde can 1v2 like Yas can. I'm leaving now.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Lol did you ever check Reddit mordekaiser mains? They do it all the time

Dabrick011 votes

I'm to saying he can't 1v1. It's just that it is done completely differently. A good Morde will blow up a squishy with their 3rd Q nuke, but a Yas actually does more sustained dmg than Morde. Once Morde's cooldowns start to pile up, he is useful only as a tank. Yas does sustained dmg though.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

You do realize mordekaiser builds triforce, gunbkade and steraks?

His DPS is pretty good. His Q has a 3 seconds cooldown too.... So yeah his DPS is pretty okay. Not as good as yasuo, but morde can 1v1 very well.

Dabrick011 votes

This thread is like 4 days old, so can we put this to rest. They are both good champs in a game who have burst and dps.

Ralanr6 votes

Don't worry, it'll pass.

The bitching on the forum won't for a month though.

The Aqualious3 votes

I know... It's just gonna be more difficult to practice certain champions that I'm debating adding to my roster... Or that I have added and have a slightly higher likelyhood of being banned

Kitty Clarissa3 votes

ill just pick Darius , or Xerath and i dont care for yasuo free week

Dabrick011 votes

Xerath sucks against Yas, Why would you pick that into him?

The JigSAW3 votes

Yasuo's free this week, huh? You know what to do...

Riven THE TIME FOR YASUO IS OVER!!!! Malzahar My Voidlings are hungry! Darius Dunk. That is all. Malphite Rock solid. Rammus OK. Lulu That squirrel looks familiar...;)

And, when all else fails..

XinZhao XIN TO WIN!

Kudrov2 votes

lol noobs that can't outplay a yasuo hahahahahaa

The Aqualious1 votes

I mean... If I'm bronze and they're Plat...

Kudrov1 votes

lol if i was bronze i would rather just do normal draft pick since you will never get out of bronze by complaining on league of legend boards lololol

The Aqualious1 votes

Which is what I'm doing, but like I said, Friendship causes minor inconveniences

Robrono2 votes

Here's a quick guide to beating Yasuo in lane. Step 1: pick one of these champions: Riven, Darius, Garen, Zed, Talon, Diana, Fiora, Renekton, or any other champion with a good early game Step 2: go into lane, hit level 2, all in him. Step 3: ggez
