Riven Ruins Games

I very sincerely despise Riven , not just as a champion but as a collection of code and furthermore as a person. I don't understand what exactly makes this champion "fair" or even "balanced". I've been told by members of the community and friends that all you need to do is keep her at a distance with range and I have had no success whatsoever. One game in particular I had the misfortune to wind up playing against her mid as Xerath because I thought Annie was mid but she was supporting. You would think Xerath would at least be able to make it past level six right? Wrong. It didn't matter that I had a champion with natural armor and a stun, Riven didn't care. She hit level 6(after me) then she proceeded to smash my face into my very own tower even though I had stunned her. One other game I was Jayce and I still got demolished. Really? Yes really. A level 2 all in and a few tower dives before 5 minutes are nothing to this terror of solo queue. How are you supposed to deal with a champion that at level 2 with standard runes, masteries and a item 1055 can put out 680 physical damage all the while knocking you up and stunning you? This combo would use her abilities Broken Wings, Ki Burst, and passive Runic Blade weaving in basics while using abilities, something like q basic w basic q basic q basic and maybe even throwing in an summoner 14 at the end for another 90 damage and good measure. Maybe I'm wrong and she isn't that bad, maybe my math is wrong (check link at the bottom), maybe I'm just a terrible player and I deserve to get my champs stomped into their own towers but I do know that Riven is not fun to lane against or to even have on my team.

I used this for Runes, Masteries, and scaling--> http://leaguecraft.com/builder/riven/?items=66&runes=36,36,36,36,36,36,36,36,36,63,63,63,63,63,63,63,63,63,112,112,112,112,112,112,112,112,112,385,385,61&level=2&masteries=04404003100200020102401100010000000000000000000000000000&fspells=true

As both a Xerath and Riven player - Xerath is going to lose that fight quite a bit if you let Riven get to you and don't poke her. Xerath is ridiculously slow, while Riven is mobile. That's a bad matchup for X.

If Riven (especially) or any character starts Dorans blade, you have to make them pay for their inability to sustain in lane w no healing. Poke retreat, poke retreat. After a couple of those a ranged character can basically free farm while a low health Riven stands around or has to go heal in base.

Riven has no sustain, so she is easily countered by Jax, Garen, Darius, Renekton, and in Mid - Ziggs.

Riven is squishy, and falls off a bit late game. Most of her counterparts top lane are simply stronger champions, so I'm not sure why people aren't complaining about say...Jax, as a broken champ.

Just like any character, Riven snowballs when she gets a good lead and is hard to stop. She's a known pubstomper for a reason.

I understand that the Xerath Riven matchup is bad for Xerath if he doesn't keep his distance. My problem was that I did exactly what you said, I poked and prodded and zoned as best as I could all the while denying her farm because of my range. But the simple fact is that her power spike at level 6 allows her to 1v1 anyone immediately regardless of item or experience advantages. I feel that it's not so much that she can snowball as it is that she's impossible to catch up to her after she gains the slightest lead and if you try to roam and gank other lanes then you leave her to free farm but if you stay you lose CS and raise the chance of her getting another kill.

I completely agree. In all honesty she is one of the most broken champions at the moment and to me is one fo the worst examples at the moment of poor counter play. Obviously the skill of the player affects the games, but as soon as you know her abilities, she's one of the easiest top lanes to snowball. She is able to play way to safely because of her E giving her a good escape and shield and her passive applies lifesteal for some reason so as soon as she has any lifesteal she can just sustain. Personally I'd like to see her abilities changed so that if she's slowed they don't move her as far and change her passive to not apply lifesteal. The amount damage she can give out early, while high, wouldn't be nearly as bad if she wasn't able to just walk away from almost any encounter (she has rediculously high base move speed considering all of her abilities can be used for movement).

Also, all of her damaging abilities proc spell vamp for some reason, wtf? As far as I can tell, Morgana Black Shield will negate all of her abilities so maybe the answer is as simple as an E from a certain Fallen Angel?

The shield will block the CC from Riven sure, but you're still taking the damage regardless. Remember that it's a spell shield which only blocks magic damage, not physical.

I'm just saying you'll have more reaction time and maybe stun Riven enough to get away at least.

Just about every source of dmg that's not from basic attacks proc's spell vamp. Sunfire Cape procs it. Ignite procs it. Grog Soaked Blade procs it.

Now if you're gonna spend 1200g and a slot for a Revolver and make it a viable buy, then BestRivenNA needs to learn from you, because you are truly the master. Remember when they fixed that bug that let you Wind Slash a second time if you used Zhonya's Hourglass during Blade of the Exile? Yeah if you were willing to spend that much resources for that small advantage, you won without it lol.

she's really strong early. because of her q and her overall damage. if you don't respect her then she will get the level 2 kill on you. it's well known. you just have to show her the respect and poke that she deserves. she's not crazy OP. she could be tuned a bit more though.

Riven is in a broken position right now, she gets a shield that is equal to the size of a Janna shield every 6 seconds when maxed, and she is one of those champs that can go 0/5 and STILL carry mid/late game; her skills have so much natural damage that she doesn't need that much ad in order to hurt like a truck. If she gets both a item 3134 and a item 3158 she can spam her shield and q even quicker. Heck, it probably isn't even riven being op, its the cd reduction being op...

Since Riven is completely CD dependent because she lacks a resource bar and scales solely on AD I would like to see either her scaling diversified or at least attach some sort of resource bar similar to Renekton or Shyvana fury in that it doesn't cost them the resource to perform basic abilities. On the plus side you could tie it in with her passive. This might mean that she doesn't always have that FREE DAMAGE from her passive if you just spam skills and basic but if you play her correctly and keep her resource full then you'll get that extra damage. At this point I don't feel like she is a very difficult to master skill wise, I mean correct me if I'm wrong but all you need to do is basic for every ability you use and you maximize your damage output all the while CCing your opponent for a good duration of that damage and executing them when they run out of that that little red bar. I know that Riven is a combo type champ and limiting her ability to do so would hurt her but LeeSin is in a very nice place and he uses Energy to combo champs into oblivion.
