The Mundo Making a Comeback?

Lets face it, as fun and adorable as he his, Dr. Mundo has never really been the most viable choice in ranked. He has a weak early game and is countered extreamly easily by pretty much everyone. So tell me, why oh why has our favorite purple hulk of flesh been rising in popularity this preseason? He hasn't been buffed, and he still has all the same weaknesses, and yet his win rate has been steadily rising since the end of S3.

TL;DR Why is Dr. Mundo popular again, and what is making his win rates rise?

As someone who loves Mundo, the biggest change is the masteries. There's a mastery that regenerates % health, which helps his early sustain. The 5 AD mastery in offense helps his early laning/CSing a ton if he's not jungle. Runic Shield helps his delicate first clear in jungle. Other changes are more subtle but also help him a lot.

Think about this. Max cleaver first and have a 3 seconds nuke for no mana cost. hit w to escape ganks. hit e to have 200 attack damage when biulding tank. hit r to 1v5.

@Stealthiness is correct, and I LOVE mundo. He's my Go To support, Occasionally I take him for a run in the top lane, although I have yet to run The JungleMundo I can see it being great. The masteries are huge for him, but I also think it's just people realizing he IS good. Some champions that fall off the map need only be played once by a beloved "Pro Player" to become revered by the LoL community once again. Think of every big popularity shift, and then look at a pro's recent champion picks, and you will find correlation. Plus, his weak earlygame is easily rectified by playing safe till you can, and he isn't really countered by anyone so much as ignite is his 1 true enemy. You just need to know what you're doing and he can carry a game as well as any other tank.

I find mundo top lane to be a almost guaranteed farm lane unless junglers get involved. Even though I'm almost always pushed back to my turret fairly early, I think Mundo has some of the best turret farming. Then I stay in lane until I can buy a item 3065
