I disagree. The Season 4 vision changes are awesome, aside from the still-useless blue trinket (not worth remembering its name).
Think of it this way: if you use normal wards, you will spend quite a bit of gold on them by the end of the game because they go away. This is a set thing. Vision Wards, however, could potentially last the entire game if they are not destroyed. That 100G is not a very risky investment because, even if Eve finds it and destroys it, you have been spared from being ganked. So that 100G loss on your side could actually save you hundreds on kill gold that would have gone to the other team.
And there's the other option: she doesn't destroy it. Now it's still there to save you again. Let's say she rushes past it in the hopes of ganking you and she fails because you saw her coming. Now her team has to decide if they have the freedom to try and take down that ward. Protect it with everything you've got.
If they can't take it down, you get to keep it. The only change I've heard of regarding the Vision Wards that I actually think is a good idea (and not just whining), is to have the damage regenerate back to 5 hits if the enemy isn't able to take it down.
It also seems that Season 4 is prompting people to avoid bushes when they gank via the river, so a well-guarded lane can keep a Vision Ward in the river bushes for quite some time. I've had my Vision Ward in the top river last an entire game because no one ever walked through the bush to check it.
