Botlane balance (Dorans Shield Nerfs)

I really appreciate the dorans line of items in botlane and I'm really excited to see what riot does with the support items and in general how item choices in botlane shape match ups. I was hoping for a discussion on how changes to Dorans shield (upcoming health hp5 nerfs) and possible support item changes might impact those nerfs.

I think it would be awesome if dorans could still remain strong against poke (I don't know reduce the health and make the passive stack but leave the hp regen?) while simultaneously improving the aggressive poke support items like the frost queens claim line. one of the big things you give up buying a Dorans is the gold gain and harass potential, because you're loosing out on the ap and mana regen. I think part of the issue with dorans is the inherent weakness of spelltheifsedge and its cohorts. The reason sons picks up a dorans isn't only because she has to survive the all in from annie lucien but also because the alternative doesn't provide as much incentive to her poke strategy. even with the stats in now provides spell thief does not give you much of a mana sustain advantage against champs who start with a shield.

One idea I heard was to make landing successful poke interact with the item, sort of like the pickpocket passive it already has. Make multiple successful harrasments provide a sort of ramping regen. mild hp regen to help win trades and improved mana regen for a short duration like the passive on cowl. This will help core poke supports like lulu while preventing annie from spamming her abilities on no one to build up stun charges. especially if you pair it with nerfs to the existing mana regen.

But I want to see other ideas. from everything I've heard the state of botlane is sort of stagnating and a little influx of community ideas might help. So, uh. Post please

I've been having a lot of success just playing janna with the coin start recently even up against supports with doran shield (mostly thresh so far).

I haven't tried the spellthief's edge item as much as I would like, simply because I feel pigeon-holed mid-late game if I don't have Talisman's active which is too valuable to pass up as well as the CDR if u need it.

But I think I'll start testing it out more. I've alway's seen it as a good starting item for champions like Lulu and Nami. So, I'll give it a try :)

The gold generation doesn't bother me, so much as the fact that its Teir 3 upgrade isn't satisfying :/

Other than that, I think the changes to dorans shield will bring out more poke oriented supports like lulu, nami, sona, etc.
