Kassadin Rework Context?

For the past few PBE cycles, Kassadin has received several iterations of a kit rework that sees a scaling back of his Q+E and retooling his W to be an on hit nuke that restores mana.

Just wondering if anyone could provide some extra context or thoughts on the extensive changes. Would be really nice to see hear what's going on :)

Right now, they re-added Kassadin to the PBE with very extensive changes. Here's the link for a comprehensive list:http://www.surrenderat20.net/2014/03/pbe-update-13.html

These are much different from the ones we had last week. It seems Riot want's to emphasize Kassadins "anti-mage" niche by removing the frustrating silence and replacing it with a AP Damage shield. The reworked W from last week is basically the same as it is on the PBE currently. His passive now gives him "ignore unit collision" instead of increased attack speed (but still gives 15% decreased ap damage) His ult is getting simplified as well, and they seem to be returning some of his tankiness by buffing his base stats and even his AA range. The new mana scalings perplex me though, as he'll have a large amount of mana regen from his new 3 second cooldown ability. I wanna see how he matches up and how well his kit synergizes, but unfortunatley, he keeps crashing the PBE.

EDIT: OMG moobeat... this is awkward...

I am also curious about the actual intent and intended playstyle behind these changes. I honestly didn't think Kassadin needed major changes other than some straight nerfs (though I liked his new W). Losing that silence outright seems a bit odd as it was only frustrating because of how unreasonably long it lasted for.

The other confusing part is that his biggest frustration point is how impossible it is to escape or chase him because of his 5 second flash, now it's 3 seconds before CDR? Seriously? Unless he does like 0 damage this alone will cause him to stay at near 100% ban rate.

I do like the push towards the intended anti mage role, but that ulti. -_-
