Tell me who to main! (Experiment)

Kason·7/7/2014, 4:05:30 AM·3 votes·793 views

Hey guys I'm a Platinum top lane main. With the Top meta becoming so vast, I wanted to try something, just for fun. Name a champ to play, and I'll do it. Simple as that. Make sure you convince me as to why tho, and don't give me some boring completely meta pick. Thanks!

Urgot

I dare you to make this champion playable.

Lane: Top Lane Fighter

Pros of playing Urgot:

  • Great poke in lane
  • Shield that applies AA and Q slows
  • Innate armor shred
  • Damage reducing passive
  • Suprisingly Tanky
  • Suppression / Reposition
  • Powerful Mid Game

Cons of playing Urgot:

  • High mana cost, low base
  • Damage comes from abilities, not AA (Silences hurt)
  • Kited very easily
  • Ultimate is a channel that deals no damage
  • Weak early, weak late
  • Purely physical damage

Ideal build: item 3277 , item 3004 into -> item 3043 , item 3110 , item 3071 , item 3083 , item 3078

Ahri. She has sustain from her passive and her range and ult can keep her fairly safe, as well as allow for play making in other lanes. Her squishiness would still keep things challenging and interesting. Even if your laning opponent builds MR you still have a bit of true damage to fall back on.

Yellow Viktor top lane, the q speed buff allows for huge kiting potential which is amplified more so when you get furor boots since with both items every q cast boosts you move speed to 150%. Just build the yellow augment first, then magic pen boots (get furor after wota), after that it is WoTA for more sustain and rylai's for utility(other items are your choice). Even if they do finally catch up to you, just place the gravity field beneath them and burst them down with your combo. Yeah you may fall off a bit late game but you just had a great time torturing their top laner who may rage quit from the experience of it. It may sound weak but in game it just is plain fun and effective. This build allows you to be the strongest kiter in the game possibly.

Swain: only works against some melee champions(ones with less mobility) but allows for amazing zoning potenial and even if you fall behind early your ult lets you quickly outsustain almost every other champion you would see in top lane.

Es numero uno: spam e for great harass, hotkey your laugh(for mental warfare huehuehues) and become a huge harrasing machine who is suicide for any enemy to dive into. You always have to have river warded though and the bush near tower due to your abysmal mobility. This may end up as a situation though where you push the lane so quickly that the enemy jungler has to either camp your lane and let all your allies run wild, or have you destroy the first tower before the 9 minute mark.

Bruiser Kassadin . 9/21/0, AD/AS runes. You want to build item 3078 and item 3070 , and then build tanky until your item 3070 is fully stacked, at which point you upgrade it to item 3042 .

The reason this works really well is twofold - one, Kassadin 's base AD scaling is incredibly good. At level 18, he has the third highest AD of any champion in the game, which makes the Spellblade proc hurt like hell. Additionally, with some CDR, Riftwalk can be used almost exactly every two seconds to maximize Spellblade DPS.

The second reason is that Kassadin 's W actually allows you to keep Muramana toggled on permanently, so long as you're Nether Blading a champion whenever possible. With perfect micro, a level 18 Kassadin with item 3078 , item 3042 and item 3110 is able to combo essentially indefinitely with only 245 mana, even if he's spamming Riftwalk and auto attacking whenever he can. Additionally, Kassadin 's W procs item 3042 twice, as it's both an auto attack and a single target spell.

Fun fact - depending on your starting mana, the aforementioned Kassadin can hit anywhere from 1030 to 1175 DPS. For perspective, that's a bit higher than what you could get on a full-build ADC prior to the Marksman overhaul, while still being pretty frickin' tanky and stupidly mobile. For further perspective, that's ~2-300 higher than what you get from 6 offensive item APC Kassadin .

Alistar AP Tank/Bruiser build

Something like this: item 3020 item 3068 item 3025 item 3001 item 3151 item 3116

Other possibilities: 9/21/0 item 3110 item 3158 = Max CDR, go item 3136 item 3068 item 3001 or item 3102

You may want to build more HP than Armor/MR though since his ult does give you damage reduction.

Massive utility, can be built more tank to suit your team. Alternatively, build more Mana (RoA? FH? Muramana?) since his spells are pretty pricy, or some regen and CDR (Athenes? Morello?) since his cooldowns are sort of long. Or just buy more blue pots. Theoretically works as a very disruptive tank, his lvl 16 ult gives him 70% damage reduction. He can actually do some pretty decent damage with some AP and Magic Pen on his belt. Also can headbutt people into your turret. Getting Furor on boots can help you get around people once you headbutt them (it's a single target spell), or you can just go for Alacrity for flat movement speed, or go for Distortion if you're taking summoner 12 summoner 4 /summoner 6 .

Shaco Zyra Velkoz Braum Hecarim

Take your pic from those 5.

Shaco has great mobility and split push but can you make it through a lane phase?

Or maybe 2 1 of 2 completely immobile mages. They have great CC and damage but are you good enough to not over extend and get ganked repeatedly? Though CC could save you.

Bruiser Braum actually could be vaible. scaling health on Q and AS would make his passive a dangerous foe. Plus his leap can be self casted for D stats.

Hec well its been done before, But just a challnege. Laning is brutal to over come.

Pick your poison. All 5 are off meta but if you did it right....

Gangplank.

Farming with your Q gives you an advantage against farm-fests, since you get extra gold.

You can poke through minions.

You have a heal/anti-cc for cc heavy comps.

MS/AD steroid for multiple situations.

Global ultimate.

On paper he looks nice; however, I have found that executing proper builds (since he is so versatile) can be tricky.

MonkeyKing . Wukong top is off-meta, I'd say

Early laning is bad (and mana intensive), but with the right build, you can deal effectively true damage through tons of armor pen (with BC, LW, and your Q, 200 armor targets have effectively 10 armor). Dealing 2k+ true damage to a squishy is OP. There are also multiple different build paths:

  1. Full Squish (BC, Boots, Hydra, LW, as core) - Where you use your passive to dart in and out of fights, and play like an assassin.

  2. Bruiser (BC, Boots, Hydra, Sunfire as core) - You won't instantly blow up full HP targets (but Q + BC is still ~60% armor pen), but you'll survive a teamfight.

  3. Tanky Monkey (BC, Boots, Sunfire, BVeil as core) - Your base damage is pretty solid, so you can build tank and be a really good initiator.

Also, Wukong's passive at max rank in a 5v5 teamfight is a free Negatron Cloak AND Chain Vest (1,440 gold)

Vayne, dueling powerhouse, relatively safe with tumble, and anti-tank with her True damage. She should be able to hold her own, if not dominate, in the top lane.

Play Katarina Top, prioritizing maxing (W). Her Sinister Steel has excellent Kite potential against melee's and she can trade extremely well. She does have trouble against champions with too much instant, upfront trade potential like Darius and Wukong, but excels against champions like Trundle or Cho'Gath, and has respectable match-ups against common top laners like Riven or Renekton. It doesn't even require special runes/masteries, or running cloth/5. Her mobility allows her to disengage bruisers that attempt to gap close on her, and her lack of any resource allows her to bully her opponents with constant Q-W combo's.

(I Play Katarina in all lanes and jungle and she's worked great for me in top so far - most recent match)
