RIP Rengar, New slogan, Better nerf rengar!

jgamma100··1 votes·574 views

It wasn't until very recently did rengar go from virtually unknown, to being a decent tanky top laner, due to your ability to sustain, in lane against, the current 3 champion top lane meta ( renekton, shyvanna, mundo) and survive into his mid to late game where he finally gets some decent scaling and the power to do some good burst if built bruiser. so what does riot do? nerf the one thing that made him mildly viable again, as if it wasnt hard enough to stay in lane with the 3 current top lane bullies, now your early game is even worse, and u can barely jungle him, especially now, since the sustain is being nerfed even more so, they decided to take away rengars triple q, the ONLY thing that gave him presence in his lane and out of his lane. so now where does rengar go? he's definitely not gonna be able to survive top anymore, and he's now on his last wobbly hobbled legged in the jungle. mean while kha'zix runs around getting quadra kills in the big leagues, cause he has burst, he has damage, he has sustain. what does rengar have? Oh another nerf, the slogan shouldnt be better nerf irelia, its better nerf rengar... thanks riot for keeping a 3 champ only top meta, great idea at creating diversity in the game. taking a kitty's claws away

They didn't nerf his sustain :/
The rest is fairly right, but he's getting a rework anyways. So no biggy.

Its not like he needed much of a rework anyways, in what i posted on Rengar, Very simple change, makes one hell of a champion (http://community.na.leagueoflegends.com/c/ideas/2l90Eihp-rengar-very-simple-change-makes-one-hell-of-a-champion) i proposed something very simple, that would give him so much more power and potential as a champion, where truly with the more skill you had, the more dynamic plays you can make.

I haven't read it yet, and I mean no harm when I write this, but my first thought that popped into my head was : If he uses W for sustain in the jungle, how can he know enough about rengar to make him viable.
(Reading rework atm)
I'm still sticking to my "he's getting a rework anyways, no biggy"-comment :D
I bet there are other champions you love, just play them or play PBE until the new rengars out :)

see i spent all of last night reading over every single update about rengars rework, and while most of it was good, the rework suddenly stopped being updated, then a month later after no news coming out about his rework, the first thing we see of rengar, is another massive nerf. yes i hope he does get his rework, but recent riot actions, doesn't make anyone feel confident it will be coming anytime soon.

I think I read somewhere that his rework was mostely focused on brush and utility through his bonetooth necklace and that the brush changes kinda kicked that idea in the nuts or something.

jgamma1001 votes

boonetooth focused on buffs for jungle rengar, with some OK options for the lane, the brush thing, i never heard about, but after a few games, you wouldn't notice the difference in most cases

The funniest part about this is your claim of a three champ only top meta. You already have Olaf, Shyvana, Dr. Mundo, Renekton. So that's already four. Plus you have Trundle getting some top lane play time recently. And that's just in the top tier scene. You still see Nasus or Darius top lane in other divisions and you can also see more fringe based picks. Stab kitty needed to be adjusted, and quite frankly he still needs some changes to place him in an appropriate position in the game.

  1. if you wanna talk about top tier scene, olaf hasn't even been used, and trundle used ONCE as a counter to the double tank comp, which makes him a situational top lane pick. who against the likes of shyvanna and renekton would not have survived at all in lane phase.
  2. if you have been watching the top tier scene what has been top lane 9 of 10? renekton, mundo or shyvanna. on top of that, compared to what i proposed as the 3 top lane tank meta, darius doesn't even come close to them, and if he's picked, he's easily countered. further more nasus is used more in the jungle now, since you can easily bully him out of lane, and keep him from farming, which both stops his q farm and his tankyness. honestly if any of the other champs you metioned were viable you would see them in top teir play so the funniest part here, is in fact your suggestions as viable top laners, with the only one being olaf as a good chioce.

You are only talking about top tier, and that's the minority percentage of the League gaming community. That's not only statistically biased but a terrible way to base evaluations about champion play and viability for the rest of the community. Regardless of your personal opinion or ability, Rengar is viable in both top lane and jungle, even after the "nerf" he received in this patch.

Furthermore, I see Olaf in the top lane in plenty of games, plus you'll also see Jax (assuming he isn't banned which he is pretty often and that tells a story all by itself) as well as seeing fringe-ish selections such as Fiora or Karma or even Jayce in top lane. Just because you can't do something, doesn't mean it's bad. As an example, I'm terrible with Evelynn but she's incredibly strong right now. She doesn't need to be reworked and neither does Rengar. You can make up and skew whatever you want, but Rengar isn't high priority right now and he shouldn't be either.

you have good points in your argument, and if your talking about bronze and silver, then yeah you can even play urgot top and wreck from then on when people start to get good at the game, the champion pool quickly starts to whittle down. Im not saying that there aren't any other champs useble in all teirs of play, im saying, as from bottom up top lane quickly whittles down to 3 champs, that everyone begins to take notice of once they start moving up. and jayce top? LOL what? he's much more viable mid than he ever was top now. he doesnt have the power, to take the likes of darius, jax, renekton etc. in the lower tiers like bronze, again anything is viable. but hey i have my opinion you have yours, to each his own bud.

Furthermore, this is about Rengar, not all these other champs you threw out, and rengar viable in jungle? he can barely survive his first clear, without a HEAVY leash. and im talking about his climing presence in top lane, after such a long time of being a joke, just nerfed again.

and dont belittle a powerful nerf, cutting a champs sustain in half, and then taking away what made him scary ( triple Q) in the mid to late game away, is a powerful nerf, no matter how you look at it, saying "nerf" doesn't change how significant it was. that "nerf" is what allowed him to sustain his presence in lane vs the likes of renekton, shyvanna and mundo. now its gone and so is a nice portion of his damage. which affects him at all tiers. honestly the more you talk, the more it is becoming clear you don't play rengar, starting to sound more like someone on the sidelines that either thought he was trash tier already, or thought he was "op".

I thought Rengar was a niche pick that fit in certain team compositions, which is something he still is. So before you talk about bias you might want to take a good hard look at the fact that no one is more biased then someone who just had one of their main or favorite champions changed in some manner. Like I already said, I have seen Rengar in games post the latest patch and he can still jungle and top lane in certain team compositions. I don't understand why you are expecting him to be able to throw into any team just because, that sort of quality is exactly the kind of thing that earns champions nerfs.

jgamma1001 votes

yes you can right, off rengar as a niche pick, and maybe i am a bit bais towards the champion since he is among my favorites. but if being able to throw a champion into just about any team comp earns a champion a nerf, why wouldn't they renekton or mundo? shyv barely got scratched at. in fact, theres a champ reowrk to make rnekton even stronger currently in process. also the fighter sweep, isnt to make them weaker, its to make them better, they're not reducing damage, they plan on adding more options such ass utility along with their itemization, so people dont just choose fighters with the most raw damage.

MackleDoge1 votes

I get this is about Rengar, but I think this change actually puts Rengar where he needs to be. All I'm going to ask, is just to think about this: Riot has already said they want to make sweeping changes to the fighter meta in top lane both in the champions themselves and itemization. So maybe this isn't about Rengar being over-nerfed, but this is actually about other champions that need to be culled back on their power instead?
