Matchmaking in Normals seems to have been deteriorating recently

I don't know if this is the right place to talk about this but it's hard to figure out where it should have been. I am more than welcome to a mod moving it to the right board.

I just went though a game where my team was lvl 13, 3 g5s, and an unranked got matched against a s2, 2 plat Vs, a plat iv and a d2. Needless to say it was painful. Seriously, we had a lvl 13. He played at about a silver level to be fair. And it's not like it was "his" fault. We all lost lane, and more importantly, and got out rotated really badly. They deserved to win and i was impressed and tried to learn. It's just that this isn't that uncommon an experience in normals anymore. It seems like most normal games have like a tier (gold to plat) of difference between the averages anymore. Maybe it's just me, but I have been frustrated recently. So yeah, this is my qq thread.

Different queues have different MMRs. Using me as an example, my MMR for Blind Pick is probably around Silver, but since I went to playing Ranked/Dominion/Teambuilder only, I've gotten up to Plat (this is on my EUW main by the way, it's Scarge). So if I play Normals, I will probably not be matched against high golds/plats. So chances are those diamonds and plats had shit MMR for Normals, then played Ranked, and are just now going back to Normals.

Though to be honest, a league or two of skill can be 'dropped' by playing in a very sloppy, messing-around fashion, so I wouldn't worry about it too much in most cases.

I've noticed that matchmaking does seem to have issues when dealing with a queue of 4 level 30s and a lower level, I've been in games where I queue up with some other diamond players, and get matched vs teams similar to what you described. I've also queued up with someone below level 30 and been matched with a team full of D1/D2 players. While my normal MMR is fairly high, these happen often enough that I would not believe that it is just random chance.

Otherwise, I don't exactly know how normal matchmaking works, it seems to sort skill level out by winrate (I keep around a 57% winrate in normals, I know friends who are better have higher winrates, and plenty of people with lower winrates)

Matchmaking has no clue how to deal with -30 premade with 30.

Call me back when you get a Challenger against you in a lane (I was gold 5 last season, though I only play ranked to get the rewards :p And yes, this has happened multiple times). And yes, the rest of the team was kinda nuts too considering our team's ranks, but I only remember what I was laning against. The different queues having wildly differing MMRs can get really annoying (I don't usually check to have a peace of mind).

Personally, I'd like it if the queues took at least some tips from eachother (especially your ranked rating as a bonus to your normal MMR), though of course this would yield a lot of complaining from highly ranked players who want to fool around in normals and can thereafter only play highly ranked tryhards.

All game modes really need to have aggregate MMR.
