A suggestion to improve Ruby Sightstone

So its basically ingrained in many people's mind that supports need a sightstone as fast as they can.

But now that sightstone give 3 wards, there is no reason to spend 800 gold to upgrade to ruby sightstone just for an extra ward charge and 250 HP.

I hardly see anyone ever upgrade it until after they are completely full build, upgraded trinkets and boot enchantments included. Which means ive seen it happen about 3 times total.

There is no real incentive to upgrade it any earlier than last. So why not change that?

My idea is that when upgraded, it allows you to place a pink ward AFTER you place 3 wards. So not only does it give you a real reward for upgrading it, it also encourages ppl to actually PLACE their wards.

I know im not the only one who has seen a support with full sightstone charges all game. And to make it so you just cant spam the pink ward to clear enemy wards every time you return from base, make it so that it has a seperate cd. Like idk it can only be placed 1 and a half minutes after its killed.

Or something else to make it feel more balanced, im not a game designer so idk whats the best way to go about it. But i do feel giving something extra like a pink ward to Ruby Sightstone would make it a better item overall, and offer actual tradeoffs of whether you upgrade it sooner or later

I'm sure Riot has plans for Sight Stone for when they do their support itemization pass. I wouldn't mind seeing separate build paths for an AP sight stone or a tank sight stone.

It's intended that ruby sightstone is not appealing because you just need the sightstone active (wards) and upgrade it really later.

As support, I upgrade to Ruby Sightstone almost every game, often as I'm completing my four-item core and before I buy my two remaining situational items. Why?

  1. I run out of wards. This is not usually because my existing wards expire and I need to replace them but because I will place two or three wards wherever the action is, even if it destroys the wards I placed where the action WAS 90 seconds ago.

  2. I like the 250 health. If I'm playing a squishy support, that'll be >10% of my total health. If I'm playing a tanky support, that's a little extra healing and a little extra shielding from my Face of the Mountain.

  3. Related to #2, one might argue that there are other, more efficient options for increasing my health if that's what I really need. True, but especially for squishier supports, +10% health on a slot I'm already dedicating to Sightstone can be worthwhile if it means I don't have to waste space on another item.
