AD Carry vs. Zed!

Hi everyone!

I'm a Bronze III player, and I main adc. I was playing Tristana last game. and I had trouble with playing against Zed and Jax. I was quite fed, though. I could've burst anyone down in a second.

Here are the team comps you you have a better picture.

Our: Singed, Elise, Lux, Tristana and Thresh.

Their: Nidalee, Jax, Zed, Jinx and Sona.

We did great at bot lane, once the laning phase was over I had a KDA of 7/0/2. Mid did okay. Lux was outfarming Zed, but Zed had 2 kills. Singed for some reason lost against a Nidalee. She was 5/0 when laning ended. Elise did fair, too. 2/2/3.

So basically, we dominated at the beginning of mid phase. Won a teamfight, got 2 Dragons in total, and the 3 outer turrets.

But then we started losing teamfights. Sometimes people got cought, but we lost mostly because of bad positioning. Jax was a PAIN mid game. My whole team would just go for their carries, thus making a huge gap so Jax could just waltz in. Of course, I just jump away, he'd come again, I'd ult him, and then he'd come again and I'd kill him. But wait! The rest of my team died!

That's how the next 2 teamfights went. After we lost the first one, I asked my team if someone can help me peel, so I can burst down Jinx and Nida instead of wasting time killing Jax. Everyone refused to respond. And they left me alone every teamfight. We did win one of them though.

So basically, during the teamfights we were losing, Zed got fed. It's late game now. Over 40:00.Zed could burst me down with his combo. I believe I had a score of 20/5 then. Of course I was the main target. So now instead of Jax, I had a fed Zed on my back. This is where I encountered a problem.

If he got to me, I was dead. No time to respond. Just assassinated. I just had a hard time avoiding him. He'd either A) Zone me form teamfights. B) Assassinate me.

I did buy a GA by then. And I had a Frozen Mallet because I had to kite very well in order to survive, plus the 700hp did prove useful against Zed. So my question is, how do I deal with a Zed when I don't have a team who can protect me? I always jump away, flash away, knock away, or kite people who focus me. But when I'm playing against a Zed with so much AD and armor pen, I can't do any of those. If I jump or flash, I get zoned from my team, or I'm forced to jump in the middle of the fight. I can't knock him away because if he's in that range, he'll just assassinate me. All I can do is barrer the ult, jump away, and knock him away. My end game build was: Berserker's Greaves - Homeguard, BotRK, IE, PD, GA, Frozen Mallet.

If this seems kind of weird, we had A LOT of teamfights this game. They basically destroyed our inhibitor/s early, so we kept having these teamfights in your base. The game went for an hour.

So any tips about how to play against a full AD, armor pen Zed as an adc? Play style? Items? Just anything in general? It would help me a lot. I'm still learning and I want to get better! And if you have any advice about what I wrote, should I have done something differently? What were my mistakes? I know you can't get much just from a text, but any help would be very much appreciated.

Please don't forget that I'm a Bronze player and this was a bronze game. I'm still learning and trying to improve myself. That's one of the reasons why I'm posting here!

I dont know much from a tristana point of view. However I main jungle and I know a thing or 2 about zed. Basically the combo is.

*Place your shadow in a spot so that when you ulti next, the target will be underneath or near that shadow. (this cost energy which comes back.) Zeds shadow cast all the same spells as Zed. (E and Q) *Now he will ult. The damage that zed causes for the next 3 or so seconds is caused again after that 3 or so seconds expires (excluding ignite).

  • Therefore W > R > E > Q > ignite. once he casts his W you want to get away from the shadow (out range it without using flash or leap or any other cds). *Then when he Ulti's (comes at you like a bat out of hell) pop your summoner spell shield and leap away. If zed doesnt get the chance to hit E then Q. Then that damage will be mitigated as well as double that damage. *I would turn and begin attacking at this point, especially if you have frozen mallet. *Zed will try to use W > W to escape or get close to you. Will depend on his tankiness and if he wants to take the chance.

Firstly, as any adc you need to stay behind your team. So if he goes for you your whole team is there to focus him.

Buy qss. When he uses ult, pop barrier to negate the damage from his e and pop qss to negate the damage from his ult. He shouldn't be able to kill you if you do those 2 things, even if you go full ad.

If you don't have barrier up then you should jump away a second after he uses his ult. Just before he pops out of it but after his shadow is placed, that way he doesn't deal damage with e. Then you pop qss to negate the ult. Now he only has auto attacks and q's, should not be a problem to kill him.

Communicate with your team. If you are fed and he goes for you then make sure your team knows that keeping you alive will win team fights.

There is this thing where some teams are better than others at teamfights. If you have a split comp then play the split push game. If you have a poke team, you play the poke game. There are all sorts of different comps, and while you are in solo queue it is hard to have a clearly defined comp, you have to make the judgement of which team has better teamfights. If the enemy team has a whole bunch of AOE damage champions and you have a team of single target/wave clear. Then you focus on objective pushing and avoiding teamfights. It is an option to just win teamfights with a objective comp if you are more fed/better players.

Zed is a really good split champion because of his amazing 1v1 duel potential. If you are caught out in a teamfight or if your team doesn't peel him off of you, he can easily instaburst a fed adc and do lots of damage to your team.
