An explanation of rank.

I'm sure this has been asked way more times than anyone wants to hear, but can anyone explain why a bronze player ends up fighting gold and silver players?

My win/loss in unranked is roughly 50/50, but in Ranked I seem to fight the most impossible battles with teams who just don't want to try or fight among themselves. (I'm about 4/16 in ranked if that helps.)

All I want to know is, is there a way out of bronze, or am I stuck here until I find some "miracle team" just happens to que with me every time?

The best advice I can give you is to learn from losing. Learn why you lost, and try to fix that. Focus on what you can do better, but never give up trying to get your team talking.

For me, I always suggested building a strong team in the lobby. Call out what the team needs, and usually someone will offer to play that. This has the double-benefit of creating a strong team comp and promoting teamwork before the game even starts. If you aren't sure what the team needs, ask.

Always play what the team needs, not what you want to play. Don't be the guy who says "I'll carry." or "Counters don't matter." No one likes that guy. Also, that guy is usually wrong.

alright the reason why you are getting matched up against silver/gold players is all about MMR (your hidden elo, like you actual rating). What the match maker tries to do is grab people who are around your MMR and put them onto teams.

So a couple of possibilities can arise out of this, either:

  • The silver/golds have really low MMR (can't drop leagues currently but i hear you can once season 4 starts)
  • the silver/gold players are duo queueing with a low mmr friend so match maker is trying to average the sides out
  • maybe someone on your team has high mmr and gets matched against silver/golds to even the team balance out.
  • or someone on your team is duoing with a higher ranked friend so the enemy team has higher ranked ppl

so long story short, match maker is looking at the players'/team's mmr and trying to even things out. There are a few factors that can happen (things mentioned above) that could throw a wrench in what you would expect to face against but it is all what match maker is deeming as about even teams.

Other than that, all I can say is have a role or 2 you can play well and pick champs you are comfortable with. Dominate your lane and help your teammates out by taking objectives.

Thank you, that actually clears a few things up. I have been doing better since season 4 started. I'm currently 7/6 in ranked.
