How to carry hard?

I have been in plenty of games lately where I am in a position to carry early game but can not close out the game. In particular Nocturne jungle I get early kills from good ganks and I rush item 3207 and then a item 3144 followed by item 3022 and a item 3026 then I finish item 3153 with item 3006 and then my sixth item depends on the game. I usually start 2 or 3 and 0 but I guess that I don't have enough sustain to get out after ulting the carries. I have a similar problem with ADC's but backwards late game I can carry pretty hard, but early and mid game I just can't seem to get much going. Anyone have advice on how to just carry in general? Obviously not dying is a big part of it, but I feel like when I play Noc I have to rely on my teammates to do a fair amount of damage and they just don't seem to be able to sometimes. As ADC I need peel, but that can be hard to get as well. What am I not doing?

Well first off, share some kills with your team early and help them out more! I also don't think the mallet is really necessary HELP OUT YOUR TEAM MORE

Its all about gaining an advantage and consolidating it by doing the right things. Pushing when its the right time, backing off when you dont see the enemy team. Buying that extra ward. Going for the smart targets. Being positive for your teammates and ping a lot to show that you are there and willing to help. As a jungler, you want to focus on the lane that has the most chances of getting your team ahead, then proceed to help the lane that is behind only when you gained an advantage somewhere else... UNLESS this toplane LeeSin who fed 5 kills to Renekton abandoned lane and the gator starts roaming or is getting the inner turret before 15 mins. Also mind that sometimes you cannot carry hard, but you can help your team achieve victory anyhow.

In my own experience, making plays to get that first couple kills is all it takes in early game. Then you need to think about what you need to do to enter snowball mode and denying comebacks to the enemy team. If you get a couple kills early but draw too much aggro and the enemy team shuts you down, then you made a mistake and you need to think about what events prevented you from getting more feed at this point. Another thing that you have to keep in mind is... who in your team is not doing their job and what can you do to prevent that from putting your team behind. Most often times you can 1- buy wards that your support isnt putting down (good return on investment when 1 ward can give you 1 kill right?) and 2- using the "bad player" in your team as bait.

Also, it all depends on what you mean by "carrying". Often my team will say to that 0/1/30 Thresh that he carried the team (madlife!!!). Or that Malphite who was so good at calling shots that coordinated the team well (push this lane then ward that and group there) and got +4 teamwork at endgame. You can carry games by killing everyone, by making decisive plays, or by calling shots that will help your team achieve victory right? Sorry if that sounds like stuff you all know but imho thats what it is.

Carrying a game does not mean that you have all the kills and are an unstoppable death machine. I lost a game yesterday where I went something like 26/5/21 as corki. We lost because of their Shaco that went like 4/11/5 or something. He carried them though because his split push was flawless. We couldnt make a play without him getting signifigant progress to an objective.

as far as nocturne is concerned you gameplay really needs to depend on the game. I find that if I am doing really well early game then I actually rush a brutalizer and spirit of the elder lizard or Wriggles. I actually prefer wriggles because nocturne scales pretty well with attack speed. Then i start to build things like BotRK or Ghostblade or ravenous hydra. But as soon as you stop being able to start ripping through the enemy team like a child ripping open wrapping paper, you need to start building survivability. Confucious say you can't carry when you dead. Omen, Maw, and Frozen mallet are all great options for nocturne. Also dont try to build like that if you are being a support style damager. you need items to be able to keep the players getting kills fed. like frozen mallet, randuins, locket, etc.

Carrying isn't getting all the kills unless you can use those kills to get consistent pentakills. Carrying happens when you as an individual creates advantages and openings for both yourself and your team. This could very well mean you die during this, but if you're team gets an ACE with only your death and it wouldn't have happened without you, then you're carrying! XD
