Creating a Varus Niche

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to make a post with a couple of ideas of what could be changed on Varus's kit to give him a niche/unique building path.

Varus is a auto attacking/ skill useless / mage attack patterned ADC with some CC to boot.

Blight Stacks Application and a Blighted Quiver Active

It is often difficult to stack rounds of blights in skirmishes due to Varus's high dependence on positioning and immobility. My suggestion would be to add an active onto Blighted Quiver that allows Varus to attack move/strafe for a brief window. This would give him some new offensive/defensive windows in which to kite opponents without ruining his attack pattern/spell rotation. Perhaps even lower this strafing abilities cooldown for every stack of blight applied to encourage Varus players to Detonate Blight stacks.

Blighted Quiver Passive

Passive: 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 (+ 25% AP)

I always thought this little passive was an interesting addendum to Varus's kit. My suggestion would be up the AP ratio on this bad boy. This would massively increase the gold efficiency of AP items on Varus, and present a more defined avenue to "Mage Varus" / "Hybrid Varus" . While Riot has mentioned a lack of support for "novelty builds" I feel like this is a circumstance where this alternative should be embraced. Regardless of build, Varus will still have the same attack pattern merely different damage output. One focused more on hard hitting Auto Attacks & Q's the other more focused on Blight Detonation & Skill combos.

Please Riot consider the possibility of opening up Varus as a "Magic" Carry. Its something that I feel really adds to the diversity of the marksman pool and carves out a unique identity for Varus. Also consider giving him some sort of active component to his W that would help him play around his Blight stacks whether it helps him apply them easier or gains his unique opportunities when their applied.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

They probably wouldn't include strafing unfortunately, and if they did they certainly wouldn't give you ways to lower its cooldown. Varus is more supposed to be a sniper type of person, and does a better job at it than the actual sniper in the game (cait), imo. Heavy hits from a distance and rewards for good positioning are his things, not run and gun tactics like attacking on the move.

I do think giving him another buildpath would be entertaining and pretty easy to do though, so +1 for that.

Not sure if I understand what you mean by "attack move/strafe". Do you mean Varus would be auto targeting nearest enemy while moving?

I like this idea.

Wait. Varus can already attack move. In fact, every champion can.
