We're actually looking into some features and fixes for locked camera (includes space bar hits) right now. By right now, I mean, right now. We have to be careful with major since Worlds are rolling up soon--and that can affect our release cadence--but I feel pretty good about saying that we'll be putting out updates to the camera in the upcoming patches.

(Oops, it's not really about Camera Angle. But I keep this post.)

There was a thread, Locked Camera Discussion, started 2 years ago by boourns. I'm not sure they're still working on it.

Let me just put some of what I have posted and found in In-Game HUD Discussion community. Will be a long post, but it's about supporting this thread.

This is a part of my post in Locked Camera Discussion. This is about what you get right after hitting the space-bar. Oh, I'm trying to l2p unlocked. Please don't hurt me.

After looking over the map, or just failing in moving the camera to the correct position, I usually hit the space bar to have camera on my champion... If you do so, a Blue player would get somewhat 'okay' or 'good' vision right away, while Purple wouldn't. The same happens when going for a bot-lane gank (regardless of the team).

Also, a post (not mine) pointed out something about game-playing fun, not skill... and I totally agree.

the game itself becomes extremely unfun that way, and myself and many others do not like RTS games, not because they're hard and its hard to use unlocked camera but because its not fun. when i play league i want to play renekton, not "a guy who commands renekton around" and im sure im not the only one.

This is my post in one of those threads about purple locked camera. This post is about not-so-high level games.

"Just unlock camera" - I have seen this thing so many times... Yes, I suspect sufficiently skilled players can unlock camera without sacrificing any other skills at all (or, can anyone? I wonder.) But how about not-so-skilled players that perform by far more poorly with unlocked camera? Riot made a skill-based matchmaking system, so I suppose they are trying to let newbies enjoy the game, then this purple camera problem shouldn't be a thing. Can people still say that, "Just unlock camera" thing, to one (well, it's me) who thinks there are hardly any players that can unlock camera well enough?

And this is another post (not mine). This problem, more about purple team than locked camera, will be fixed when they release new SR map.

"Just Unlock" doesn't change the fact that blue has a better field of view than purple. The view is much narrower at the bottom than the top, so it takes more effort to keep the opponent in view. Additionally, the position the camera snaps back to when you press space is completely skewed towards giving blue a better view. Blue flat out has the vision advantage, locked camera or not.

If you don't like the real answer, nobody is going to be able to provide a satisfying one.

The game is designed for unlocked camera. It was NEVER designed for locked camera. It's a learning tool for new players. You are expected to eventually adopt unlocked camera. If you do not, then you will be stuck with a UI designed for newer players that DELIBERATELY restricts the number of UI variables you have to deal with and the information you have to process.

Learn to play unlocked.

You're only restricting your gameplay if you play locked. It's your problem, not Riot's, if you decide not to use the UI to your full advantage (especially since unlocking your camera literally only requires the push of a button).

Even if you're not playing a champion with a global skillshot (or even a skillshot that goes offscreen if you're on purple side), being able to free-cam gives you better clarity as to exactly what is going on, instead of just looking at a bunch of clustered champion faces on a mini-map, praying to rito that whatever they're doing, they're doing well.

imo, you're so right. :(

Not saying you shouldn't, but what do you find the advantage to playing locked screen? I've never been able to think of one other than it's easier... Do you just use it in specific instances? like while laning or running around the jungle or what? I haven't ever used it so I don't want to judge too early, but I just can't think of any reason to use it. So just thought I'd ask.

please stop posting these threads. And learn to play unlocked. Riot has stated this is the way the game is meant to be played

knowing when to lock and unlock makes you a better player.

They're modifying the camera in the SR update, not sure if it'll fix the angle, but they are lowering the FOV while moving the camera farther back, so there's less fish-eye-ing (warping around the edges), but the total amount of map seen remains the same. I'm not sure if this will correct the problem you're talking about. Are you asking whether the angle for locked camera will be fully top down? I actually don't understand your question...I haven't played with a locked screen for a long time, I forget what it looks like...

I don't even understand your question... What's wrong with the camera angle? Why would you expect it to be different between locked and unlocked? What even needs to be addressed?

But yeah, you should learn unlocked. Some champions have skills that can be shot farther than your screen can even see. You're legitimately handicapping yourself depending on your champion. Also, stop being a baby, you baby.
