Why should I support Riot Games when they can't provide a stable and balanced gameplay & client?

B0N3 SPL1NT3RS··35 votes·12,073 views

This is the very reason why I don't purchase skins from the shop. I only support this company if they are self-aware of their issues with champions, lag, and balancing the game.

There will never be a time when everyone is happy about every champion.

Lag isn't a thing everyone deals with.

Balancing to a point where everyone is happy isn't possible because most people don't want balance.

people who don't want balance will quit the game once the game gets balanced so everyone is happy

I'm saying it isn't possible as well as people don't want it. People don't want balance, they want things they play and don't mind playing against being strong, and everything else being weak or unviable.

VERY few players want balance.

Millions of people play the game daily with very few, if any issues.

There are millions of different computer configurations, including software. You honestly expect them to perfect it for all of those millions?

Well Idk. He is true on that front but when client of other mobas such as Dota and HoN (HoN however having higher system requirements) work just fine on most modern age pcs, I am sure League can at least do better than is current state.

I am not a programmer so I wouldn't argue but the state of the client can definitely be improved in general.

To create code that would run on every machine without fail, you would need to write code that could detect the machine it's running on and alter itself appropriately to run on that machine. Let's assume such code can be created. All that needs to happen is it be run on a machine with a configuration that causes the code to delete itself, and then the code would not run on that machine. As such, the original code that can run on every machine cannot exist, because it by definition cannot run on every machine. This is similar to the halting problem in its proof.

Now, it's possible to get pretty close - as an example, many games have an "autodetect" feature where it will detect your system configuration and make changes (such as to graphics settings) to fix itself. Furthermore, the game can detect if it's being run as an administrator or not and choose what to do based on the elevated access. However, it's not possible to write code that will take your running process list, RAM contents, etc. and be able to run perfectly given any set of those, as such code cannot exist.

Let’s be real here, it is impossible to make “flawless” one, but look at Dota, even Smite or HoS, all good. If they can, why not Riot?

What defines "good"? Does it mean crashing 0.01% of the time for everyone? Or does it mean crashing 0.1% of the time for 10% of the players, and 0% of the time for the rest of the players? Note that in both cases, the percentage of crashes is the same = 0.01%. However, in one instance, 90% of the players experience a perfect client, and only 10% ever get crashes.

So, let's say we define it as the percent of the players experiencing crashing more frequently than X. It's fully possible that yourself, and others you know may be in that percent, but it can still be a very low percent. You being negatively affected doesn't mean it's bad.

I’m not even talking about crashes. I’m talking about overall performence and features, Dota has smoother, for me nicer, quicker, more reliable client with more features.

Idk if you are so much in love with Riot or if you are just stubborn to the point where, what you say is true.

Every single person I know experienced some bugs with client or problems with performance. Be it sound bugs, que bugs, overall slowness. On the other hand, I met only few who had problems with Dota client, their bigger problems are servers.

it's entirely possible to make some code that works on all systems. it's just that every system needs to run the same operating system and download a requirement necessary to allow it to work xD. in theory there should be some arbitrary code out there that works flawlessly on most if not all systems, or otherwise all purpose code that works on everything.

usually though a client should run flawlessly on atleast one operating system, that should be the goal at least. it's pretty obvious to me that the league of legends game executable works fine, but for the life of me i can't figure out why the launcher client is so laggy, unresponsive and buggy. something tells me if riot wanted to fix the client with all it's issues, it requires another remake.

am i right?

how do you even exist such a record of low intellegence has been unheard of untill now first. most people that play this game use windows xp ,windows 7 or windows 10(more than 90percent of the community) second. what you wrote is bs , it is very easy to write code for all these systems third. league is a 2008 game meaning it is very easy to run you could probably run it with 128mb of ram and less than 256mb video card and other tech before 2000

Fun fact: there are actually thousands of versions/patches of each of these operating systems. To say you only need to test it on 3 systems is oversimplifying the situation significantly. You know those Windows Updates notifications you get every now and then? They actually change the way the system runs. Also, installing any other applications may interfere with the operation of any other application. Crazy, I know.

No, I do. I know it's literally impossible to create code that will run on every single machine.

Does not seem like it ... Every machine "speaks" (more like reads) the same language: binary. And every single programming language (high-level or not) is just that: A language. A compiler (appropriated to a said programming language) works as a translator to binary. Simple as that.

In the end, every computer ends up reading the same shit and working with the same shit: binary. Unless you have a r.e.t a.r.d.e.d compiler, your computer will read your code just as easily as you read a book (assuming your code does not have any flaws in it).

If it appears hard to understand, let me give you an instance: I suppose you have heard of html language (and how it looks like). When you write a piece of code in a [e.g.] windows notepad or an IDE (abbreviation for: Integrated development environment), you will have a piece of text that no computer will understand. Now ... if you open that .html extension text file in a browser; then there you will have a compiler (hidden in the browser itself) and it will right afterwards display you the page after compilation to machine language (by later signaling your output monitor so the user can see and bla bla bla). At this point, after the compilation, every single computer will read your .html in the same way, no differences here. So long you have the same browser (and version) in different computers, that page will be exactly the same. (Note, however, that html also requires some attention to resolution adaptation and all that, but we are ignoring them). It's no wonder that if you try writing in c# or c++ (for example) and then open their respective file in any browser, you will find "nothing" (just the code on the page). Simply because they don't have a compiler for those languages. Anyway, I am stopping the explanation here, think I am running away from the topic, and besides: It's supposed to be a simple explanation.

It's pretty reasonable to expect the game not to be flawless on each configuration. Having said that, game's client is a piece of shit and I have no idea what their **dedicated performance team **is doing. Just a friendly reminder that it was assembled like half a year ago and we got no news since.

If other games can, why cant league? I dont remember having any issues with dota, hots, csgo etc. But League on the other hand...actually, lemme name some of them:

  • slow AF sometimes
  • unresponsive (need to click something several times before the client responds
  • for a while I couldnt see champs in champ select (cant pick nor ban champs, had to dodge, had this issue for half of s8)
  • for a while I couldnt pick my custom runes
  • now from time to time i cant see my friendslist, and cuz of it i cant invite any1, have to restart
  • applying even the small patches takes 5-10 mins (and we're talking about 10 MP of patches...)
  • this one is rare but sometimes it wont connect me to the game, have to close it, and then have to shut down several instances of League Client.exe (for some reason League need 4 instances of client opened at the time+ some League Render thingy, 4 of those aswell). So i need to close 8 League related instances before I can restart the game

I might not have the strongest PC, but if I can play everything else without any issues except League, then sry, there is something wrong with the client.

Okay guys, let's take a look at this comment, where we can clearly see someone denying the problem the current client has despite the proof and the numerous complaints on the forums.

Now, also please take a look at his profile, he is lvl 39, and the last game he played was on the date of 4/13/2017, so this guy, didn't play a game for 2 years

Now the question is, why would a person be active on the forums of a game which he doesn't play anymore for two years, and why does he spreads propaganda that everything is fine when it clearly isn't and it was proven numerous times, and the strange thing is that there are a very large number of this kind of accounts, that didn't play a match for more than 1 year yet they are extremely active on the forums, and extremely supportive towards riot.

But yeah, riot clearly doesn't pay staff to act as regular users around the forums in order to take down negative topics about them

If Riot's paying me, I don't know where the money is going.

But yeah, resort to personal attacks just because I'm telling you the truth. Sure.

You are here telling us that the game client is working perfectly and smoothly and doesn't have any kind of problems, even tho everyone is complaining about the game client, but may i ask a question ? how do you know that the client is fine and working, when according to your profile's match history, the last game you played was in 4/13/2017.

.......Does the configurations matter much at all?

All the game has to do is run stably on the operating systems, as long as it works well on the common ones(which is still has trouble doing) then things are fine.

So as long as the hardware is up to par and the software isnt some rather uncommon piece of work then there is no real reason for things not to work.

But its already here that things get weird, there are still completely random inexplicable crashes, bugs and such stuff occurring for many.

Then in game we even have a live case of a champ being so bugged that rather than trying to polish them for a VGU they just made the character anew from scratch(Mordekaiser).

We also have a ton of in game bugs that go unfixed for months if not years, saw someone on the Syndra reddit stating that she has ....either one or several, forgot specifically, bugs left since her release.

This seems to indicate the game is such a giant soup of spagetti code that riot themselves dont know how to fix a number of the issue´s which for such a large company is.....pretty ridiculous, albeit only so after many years.

So its not really unreasonable to feel really iffy about how the multitude of issue´s, some have been around so long that people actually think they are supposed to be there or something, sometimes Rioteers have gone in and been like "yeah we´re looking into it" then nothing happens.

There is plenty of reason to be a bit disappointed if you know what you are looking at :(

The operating systems are not the only important thing. Various system specs, as well as other installed programs, can negatively affect League as well.

When one talks about "system specs" its usually hardware one refers to, what are you on about?

And most other programs dont cause any problems except anti virus, malware or in a few rare cases, those that allow some graphics tuning that doesnt mesh with league´s own.

Program A wont affect program B unless they overlap somehow, and such are usually easily found&fixed.

I myself had some overlay deal from a program that came with my graphics card, i shut that down and it was fixed instantly, i still crash or get FPS drops for no reason at times though.

I´ve made multiple support tickets, sent in hextech repair logs and chatten with their support and it just got nowhere until i went and just did a clean reinstallation that somehow fixed it, no one could explain why.

Right, did i mention that the game frequently fails to patch correctly for many? I´ve been victim of it several times too, had to re-install every time.

So you good fellow......dont put the rioteers on a pedestal, they are normal people doing what they can but league is a giant puzzle with several pieces that just dont seem to fit,,,,,like mordekaiser, that can only be fixed if someone actually takes them out and remakes them.

Which is beyond their capacity most of the time, like death recap.

Or the people who work on skin fx. People who maintain the website, people who manage riot's twitter. Not all riot employees do the same jobs, y'know? It's your choice to not use money on league, that's fine, but there are people working for Riot who genuinely seem to like the game.

Idk what kind of “perfect client” you’re talking about but i can say for sure that i barely saw as much complains about the old client as i do with the new one. Like they had good and well stable client, why would they change it to this weird buggy client where you can still get cruicial bugs which gonna force you to dodge the game.

I kind of want the people hating on the client to make their own and have millions of people use it one a daily basis 24/7 and expect it to run smoothly over hundreds of countries with different languages, dialects, currencies, servers, and offer it for free. along with having to pay a full time staff in all of these different areas of the world.
