Is gold considered "low elo"

Mana Fox·2/25/2018, 10:15:01 PM·4 votes·10,032 views

Hello, I recently posted in the team recruitment forums looking for low elo players to duo with on my smurf(this account) so I could get back into coaching(helping them learn the game and climb) but a lot of golds added me saying they were "low elo". Is gold really that bad/low to be considered low elo, I never really thought about it before but I thought it would just be middle area since you technically get the rewards. Just wanting other player's opinions on it, thanks! p.s sorry if this is in the wrong area, wasn't sure where to post :/

Gold is kind of middle of the pack, probably the highest a casual player is going to get.

It seems to have Low-ELO meta/strategy (or lack thereof) with some more mechanically skilled players.

gold is considered low elo yes

notFREEfood2/25/2018, 10:28:57 PM9 votes

No.

It's by no means "high elo" but it's above average.

I would consider "low elo" to be silver 5 and below.

elitists consider anything under D1 "low elo"

in actuality it is this:

Bronze is Low Elo Silver is Average Gold is Above Average Plat is Excellent Diamond and above is Exceptional

Statistically speaking, gold players are about the top 10-25% (from Gold I to V respectively) of ranked players each season. Whether you consider this "low elo" or not depends on the person. If you factor in the difference in player skill between elos, then I could see how someone in diamond could consider gold to be low elo. Just looking at gold from a statistical standpoint though, I'd argue it's at least mid elo.

In the end, it's all subjective.

Well competitive players usually call anybody below Diamond (some include D as well) a low elo. Imho Gold is still low elo, unlike Plat. I experienced playing with both Gold and Plat. The difference I notice is that Gold can be more skilled than Silver, but they are equally lacking macro knowledge.

kurnubego2/26/2018, 10:44:07 AM2 votes

Anything below mid diamond is considered low elo. That's based on idea that anyone can reach diamond if player takes game seriously. Now 'serious' players don't compare themselves to casual players like myself :/ who play 2-4 games a week, mainly on weekends.

So that's your explanation why bronze, silver, gold, plat, low diamond are all considered low elo.

ModBoggyBuntu2/25/2018, 11:30:31 PM2 votes

Depends on the gold range. I think with the no-decay-from-gold implemented, you're gonna find a lot of Gold V 0 LP people...

That being said, there's a good enough difference between play skill per tier until you reach like Diamond 3 or so.

Most pro players hover from Diamond 3 to Challenger AFAIK. So I'd say that true high elo is D3+, high elo for most people would be plat V+, mid elo Silver 2+, and the rest low.

Diamond 5 is low elo Anything above that is "high elo"

General Esdeath 2/26/2018, 2:31:04 AM1 votes

I think gold is low elo but still a great thing go get. I feel like low elo stops at plat but maybe that's just because I'm gold and see all my flaws.

Dorans Pants2/26/2018, 3:31:38 AM1 votes

high elo: ( >2% of the playerbase )

Challenger master high diamond

low elo: ( > 28% of the playerbase)

low diamond plat ( aka high gold ) gold

trash: ( <70% of the playerbase )

silver bronze

as you can see being gold is not too bad as you are already above average. Despite that, it´s still regarded as low elo for most people because the skill requirements rise exponentially the higher you climb to the point where challenger player call even dia1 players low elo. So there is also a bit narcissism mixed in.

ZenithEevee2/26/2018, 3:37:46 AM1 votes

Honestly I think most people consider anything under Plat5 as "Low elo" Because you cant decay down by not playing the game.

Unrefõrmed2/25/2018, 10:44:14 PM1 votes

Depends on who you ask. Low gold is about "average," statistically speaking.

######"twice as less" lmao pretty sure he means "half as many"

Myrmiron2/26/2018, 11:15:56 AM1 votes

Depends on how you look at it. I consider anything below D3-D4 low elo since I feel like D3-D4 players are about half as good as one can get at this game. Looking at it from the other perspective, anything below silver 3 is low elo since silver 3 and below are 50% of the player base.

Takua Nuva2/26/2018, 12:30:10 PM1 votes

is hard to know how good gold 5 is cuz many gold players get it from duo and duo < solo skill imo gold only start at gold 3

Worst Kench NA11/5/2019, 1:27:45 AM1 votes

Anything below Diamond 1 is low elo. There's nothing wrong with that fact and people shouldn't be ashamed to be in low elo, but it's the truth.

Don't take my word for it, take it from pros in Fnatic that can't tell the difference between silver and platinum players.

Dorans Pants3/4/2018, 3:20:51 PM1 votes

yeah but saying that low elo starts at plat sounds weird. didn´t want to put in the lower bracket either as it would imply that around 88% of players do not know how to play the game.

maybe such a binary dichotomy as low and high elo is simply insufficient when portraying many groups with varying skill levels

but yeah silver < gold << plat seems right but i had to draw the line somewhere and telling someone that he is even below low elo despite being above average felt wrong

It's probably considered middle, even though it's like top 15%...

The thing is, most players that make smurfs are diamond+. So compared to them, gold is low elo. Most smurf accounts will place in gold 5 off the bat (or as high as plat 5), so they would only really play with golds anyways. So it makes sense that golds would want to queue with a smurf.

so no, gold is high elo

Think of it like this - low gold is around the skill level every player should be at on average after playing the game regularly for 6 months to a year, though that often is not the case. Does it seem low or high to you then?

Challenger 0.02% 0.02%

Master I Master I Master I 0.03% 0.03%

Diamond I Diamond I Diamond I 0.07% 1.94% Diamond II Diamond II 0.10% Diamond III Diamond III 0.18% Diamond IV Diamond IV 0.35% Diamond V Diamond V 1.24%

Platinum I Platinum I Platinum I 0.65% 8.30% Platinum II Platinum II 1.19% Platinum III Platinum III 1.47% Platinum IV Platinum IV 1.71% Platinum V Platinum V 3.29%

Gold I Gold I Gold I 3.65% 27.15% Gold II Gold II 2.63% Gold III Gold III 4.00% Gold IV Gold IV 5.59% Gold V Gold V 11.28%

Silver I Silver I Silver I 5.88% 47.12% Silver II Silver II 9.47% Silver III Silver III 10.52% Silver IV Silver IV 10.40% Silver V Silver V 10.87%

Bronze I Bronze I Bronze I 3.93% 15.44% Bronze II Bronze II 3.61% Bronze III Bronze III 3.06% Bronze IV Bronze IV 2.32% Bronze V Bronze V 2.52%

So looking at this chart which is from https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/rank-distribution I want to say that top 10% is high elo Plat 5 onwards. at least if you dont consider top 10% of something good then IDK what to tell anyone else. Silver 1 and below is low Elo

Gold 5-1 is average/medium.

Looks look at this standards here and IMO about each division regarding skill level

Challenger/Master - these are elites Diamond - Almost at the elite level just need to fine tune some things usually in decision making based on game knowledge Platinum - Mechanics are solid, but game knowledge and situational knowledge may need find tuning or vice versa Gold - they have decent mechanics and decent game knowledge, but may not know how to play their team comps or still make bad decisions Silver - mechanics are getting better but game knowledge is usually pretty bad Bronze - this could be so many things unfortunately it is usually terrible mechanics and terrible game knowledge.

Now i would say no . It arrives Iron and most players are about Bronze 2 - Silver 3 . Gold is not a low elo , but it depends . Actually is a big difference between Gold IV and Gold I .

What is it like 50-70% of the player base are in Bronze/Silver so, gold is considered high elo to me at least.
