It's kind of like Gyarados from Pokémon. In game, and in all of his splash arts his jaw is gaping open. You can only clearly see his mouth close when you ult with the dark star skin. I get it, he has an insatiable appetite, but does he not have a nose he can breathe through or something???

The thing is, Cho'Gath smells through his mouth. What you see is him smelling his prey as he walks around. When he eats something, you don't see it, but a secondary "mouth" structure within the outer mouth is what actually consumes his target.
