[SOLUTION] for League Displays asccess denied D:\Users\...
If you have a problem with League Displays and getting this error message "League Displays i s currently unable to access D:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local, which is required in order to download art and set your wallpaper and screensavers. Please modify your computer permissions settings to allow League Displays access to that folder." while trying to start the programm, here is a Solution to get this fixed:
###WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN#### This happens if you changed the registery entrys [Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList] from %SystemDrive%\Users to D:\Users
Windows 10 kills your users permissions to do what you want, also some programms have a little problem with a non systemdrive directory like League Displays.
Well I can say I found a uncommon solution to get League Display working AND keep my Users folder on D:\ without changing my registery entrys mentioned above.
###HOW DID I FIX THIS### I have to say i performed a complete reinstalled of my Windows 10 for this to get a nice and clean registery, because once you start working on changed registery with a D:\Users profile, your registery is full of these D:\ entrys and it's impossible to change all entrys back to C:\ because of missing permissions and future problems if you still try it, windows will crash because of issues with microsoft edge and other "features" from windows. Just doing a windows 10 recovery install won't work, because windows 10 surprisingly keeps the changed registry entrys for the profiles even after perfoming a recovery install. (I tried it and was surprised too)
Unexperienced Users shall practice in a virtualbox invironment.
###GOALS### Step1: Change the Profile directory from C:\Users to D:\Users without editing registery. Don't touch registery! I mean it! Step2: ? Step3: Profit!
###INSTRUCTIONS### Before you start anything, create a BackUp! Everything done from now on is on your own risk
###Step1: Reinstall###
- Download the Media Creation Tool from Windows and i recommend the install via usb drive, because you can add your desired windows 10 key into this file if you have a key for pro, education or anything else. If you have one and you created the usb install, open your notepad, name the file "pid.txt" and fill it with this content: [PID] Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Save and copy this file onto your usb install medium into the folder named "sources" Windows will use this key and install your desired windows version. The pid.txt file is in priority and windows ignores the mainboard UEFI windows home licence key!
-
Boot from your stick and start a new clean install, delete the old partitions from the previous windows 10 (like recovery and co. the 100mb partitions etc.), generally it's found on your disk 0 all other disks are your beloved datas.
-
After start windows does his routine, copieng all files and reboot. With this reboot you have to boot again from your usb stick, do not perfom the install with creating your account! If you have booted from your install medium again, Press Shift + F10, a command promt will open. Here are the Steps to do now #are comments now):
This is your working directory "Here you are sign"
X:\ #everything after ">" is the command you have to put in > dir
#you will start in X:, C: will change your active partition X:\ > C: C:\ > #lets show the filetable C:\ > dir #Folders should be shown like Users, Windows, Programm Files etc.
#change to your D: C:\ > D: D:\ > #check if your files are here D:\ > dir #shown folders should be Users, also your Games and whatever you have there #If everything to this point went good you can keep going
#Saving old Users Directory D:\ > move D:\Users D:\OLDUsers D:\ > C: #Copy the new Users folder to your D: C:\ > robocopy /copyall /S /xj C:\Users D:\Users #should be done without warnings
#creating a junction to your Users folder C:\ > mklink /J C:\Users D:\Users
#check link C:\ > dir #you should see a entry called JUNCTION C:\Users <====> D:\Users #if this is you are done, exit cmd and reboot
- Create your account as usual Windows will follow the Junction and all other programms will too, because the registery is still set to %SystemDrive% there will be no problem for any other software. Windows will handle everything like it is still on C:\Users while the Junctions points everything to D:\Users
Now you can install League Displays and it will work.
###Step2: ? ### And that's it folks. Enjoy your new Solution and have fun.
###Step3: Profit### gifts and worshippers are welcome
