Massive lag spikes

So, I've just started playing again for a while, and I am so far enjoying it is pretty hard, I have massive lag spikes randomly throughout the game. It's very annoying, I am going from around 60 FPS to 5 FPS. It's the most frustrating thing ever. Hope someone can help me. Thank you!
