force people to have mastery 5 to play that champ in ranked

i see WAY too many people use champs they aren't familiar with, and constantly throw games because of outward feeding from the 1 million point mastery 7 laner.

i think it should be required to at least reach mastery level 5 on a champion to play ranked with said champ. i think it would really add an interesting dynamic to how ranked is played, and reduce the amount of lost games due to people blindly playing random champs.

i get that people want diversity to counter champs, but if they don't at least have mastery 5 on said champ and they don't know entirely how to do well with them & the enemy is mastery 7 or w/e, the "countered" champ isn't really all that countered.

it would also reduce the amount of people hopping on the bandwagon of "OP" champs, and have them play norms first before taking a test drive in ranked.

thoughts?

What if I want to secure picks and trade? I'm not playing every champ to M5 to trade

I honestly agree to this, mastery 5 is not a hard achievement and can be easily accomplished fairly fast. I can see people who would disagree would be smurfs trying to climb with characters they are familiar with, but would not be able to if this was implemented. This would definitely help lower rank micro play. I wouldn't make the requirement be any higher though, just enough for the player to be familiar with the champ.

Even ignoring the trading dilemma, requiring m5 is too much.

Unless you believe a player needs to m5 at least 20 champ or else they can't even play ranked, since it's not just owning 20 champ anymore but 20 m5 champs.

I'd say m2 is enough. Certainly not m5.

After all, what's important is creating an environment in which literal first-timers don't run into ranked, and not trying to make ranked an elitist club.

They'd just end up pissing off all their streamers and high elo players by doing this. Even though smurfing isn't good for the game the culture is so ingrained people will kick up a storm if it got inhibited like this. Is Riot willing to take on that backlash? Unlikely.
