Worlds Tokens

So during the quests during the 10 year anniversary and worlds I accumulated 680 worlds tokens. I thought this was sort of a weird number and in the past I have spent tokens not realizing there were more quests coming so just to be safe I thought I would wait. Today I was like "I guess there aren't any more quests I should spend those." and go and check and they are gone.

So my first question is Why? What is the point of there being a time limit on them? And second is was there something in game that said "these must be used by this date"? I mean it isn't the end of the world that I lost them and I guess I could have done some research on them online. It is just a bit annoying and seems pointless.

There used to not be a time limit, but a lot of users complained about having too many tokens. Plus they'd have to keep the backend of all the awards + the store, which I assume would be a lot after a while for items that maybe 1 or 2 people would buy in a month, and it would fade out as people used their no-longer-earnable currency.

Kind of dumb but whatever. Based on the complaints today about the naming thing I guess Riot is not known for making the most customer friendly decisions.
