The Real Problem with Nexus Blitz: Gold Leads

So this is a bit of a hot take. I think Nexus Blitz pretty much can work super well as a permanent fun, alternative game mode. I like some others more and I think they should be permanent, but Nexus Blitz is fine.

The problem is that when reviewing what can make Nexus Blitz not fun, which is imperative when thinking about a fun game mode, is being stuck at a point where you are unable to win no matter how well you play, and that's because of a gold disparity.

I think it doesn't make much sense at all for there to be such a thing as a gold lead in Nexus Blitz. A fun game mode should be one where your team is competitive and has a shot for the entire game and the snowball that can happen in Nexus Blitz can be a very fun-draining experience.

I think, while Ascension has it's problems, its great innovation is the absence of a gold lead. You are never weak and ineffective. Being weak and ineffective sucks. It's un-fun. Allowing people to get super ahead in gold in Nexus Blitz is the biggest issue with the entire mode.

I can accept that you can get unlucky with events, and your team can get screwed over for them. I can deal with that and still find the game to be a fun game mode. But if the random stuff that can screw over my team makes me and my team weak and ineffective (i.e., other team gets gold and we become weaker in relative terms), then that becomes a huge detriment to the enjoyability of the game mode.

There are different ideas on this, i.e. last hits and kills can tally up into some kind of total counter and at various thresholds, you get minor buffs for the team, exp is still relevant, maybe the "Kill the Yordle" events can still give gold. It's not an absurd ask.

tl;dr - Having a gold lead in Nexus Blitz can make the games get out of hand and super un-fun for the other side. If the mode were more like Ascension, i.e. no gold lead, then you, your champion, and your team are relevant and have agency over the outcome of the game for the entire duration of the match, rather than being stuck with absurd odds at coming back b/c of the huge gold lead, and the mode remains a fun game mode for 10 people instead of 5.
