Love for Lore

I used to be huge on League Lore (way back when summoners were a thing and lore was still readable ingame), and in recent times, I've tried to get back into a little.

To preface my complaints, I want to point out that the lore team has been doing a WONDERFUL job of slowly improving the lore and really bringing the world of League back to life.

Regardless, it's the boards, so I'm here to whine.

Personally, I feel that some regions and groups of characters have received a lot more love in terms of lore updates, new lore and just general exploration of the area. Understandably, most of this is tied onto champ releases and updates, but even so, it'd be nice to see the less explored areas get some love.

A few examples:

  • Bilgewater (Seems that every year we get an update, a new champ, a full set of stories or some other cool lore stuff)
  • Targonians / Aspects (Couple champs in the past few years have been related to this - Asol, Zoe, updates to Aatrox etc - and it feels a lil oversaturated atm)
  • Ionia (Kinda - again, couple champs with lore related to this area)

Personally, here are some areas I'm SUPER intrigued about and would love to learn more about:

  • BANDLE CITY (All we know is it's a mystery to many people, shrouded and magic and full of Yordles, a lot could be done with this)
  • The Void (still so much mystery to it)
  • Zaun
  • Piltover (They had good lore in the past, been a long time since they got attention)
  • Noxus and Demacia (might get some with the VS? Hopefully?)

Additionally, there are some champions who DESPERATAELY need lore updates.

I'll give one easy example, that led to me looking into the lore: Rumble.

Rumble Im sorry, but this guys lore is trash. He is just a bullied little Yordle, who gets the everloving TRIST beat out of him, runs away, and comes back with a shabby robot that apparently displays the true extent of Yordle engineering (???).

If you haven't read it, its super quick, check it out: https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/champion/rumble/

There are many other champions that are in a similar state with lore that just doesn't feel as well detailed as the newer champs / updated characters.

Finally, I'd love to see the story of League progress. I have vague memories of an old system with weekly news articles about the happenings of Runeterra, and it'd be cool to potentially get something. With the removal of the summoners lore, the game of league itself isn't directly tied in to the lore, outside of the use of characters. To me, that means that anything can happen to characters, without requiring ingame exploration of the consequences.

For example, lets say Riot chose to pursue a story in which a champion dies, lets say its... Teemo. Teemo dies, for whatever reason, but he's still a playable champion ingame. Now note, this is an extreme example, and I doubt Riot will be killing any champs anytime soon, but even so, it'd help to make the world feel real, constantly evolving and much, much mor exciting.

Anyway, I'd love to hear some thought from you guys, what regions of runeterra do you want to hear more about? What champions do you feel deserve a bit of love? And would you like to see the lore of runeterra move forward as a story?
