What Classifies a Unit?

I am curious what classifies a unit. Is it its ability to be destroyed, damaged, or targeted? Mostly a question because I play a lot of Tryndamere and in my opinion a tower should be classified as a unit. Therefore I should be able to build up Fury off of it. Thoughts?

Minions, Champions and Jungle Camps

those are "Units" according to League at least in most circumstances

From my time in the Warcraft 3 TFT map editor, structures like towers were still units.

By extension, the inhibitors and nexus are also units, just classified as structures like towers.
