"But we feel this is the best decision for League, as it lets us keep our focus on our larger..."
June 10th, 2015
For those that aren't aware, this date was the LAST time that Riot touched Twisted Treeline. Otherwise known as patch [V5.11]
Key features included: The Prehistoric skinline, the teasing of Bard, and... Crystal Scar changes? Yes you read that right, DOMINION WAS STILL A GAMEMODE.
We debated on whether an ARAM-esque level of support would bring it up to standard, but the lack of growth from the previous efforts we mentioned led us to the conclusion that it just wouldn’t be enough to make Treeline a healthy long-term mode.
Are you serious Riot? No updates for 4 YEARS, and you say you tried? Sure there might have been internal balance or designing going on, but it's been 4 WHOLE YEARS without ANY kind of updates
Here's a paragraph from your website.
A smaller map than Summoner’s Rift, the Twisted Treeline is configured horizontally, with two lanes flanking a neutral area. Two turrets are placed along the length of each lane, and the nexus is defended by a single turret. Teams are composed of three champions apiece, and each champion spawns with a substantial sum of gold. The reduced map size and accelerated level curve makes for a shorter game length and higher kill scores.
Huh. Amazing how two fun and fast gamemodes both were eventually axed.
Like Dominion before it, we’re sad to see a longtime part of the game disappear. But we feel this is the best decision for League, as it lets us keep our focus on our larger game modes.
I'm sorry, did I read that wrong? Focus on our larger gamemodes? How about focus on ANY gamemodes. I actually couldn't tell you what the last featured gamemode was! Nexus Blitz? ARURF+? Bilgewater Aram? Not even sure if that last one counts since it just replaces Aram for the event.
Can we finally get a category or spot in the client that lets us see ALL the gamemodes?
Can anyone guess how many "featured" gamemodes there are? I couldn't find how long some of them ran, but here goes.
- All Random Summoner's Rift - 2 Weeks
- All Random Ultra Rapid Fire - 8 Weeks
- Ascension - 17 Weeks
- Black Market Brawlers - 2 Weeks ???
- Dark Star: Singularity - 6 Weeks
- Definitely Not Dominion - 3 Weeks
- Doom Bots of Doom - 6 Weeks
- Hexakill - 2 Weeks
- Hexakill: Twisted Treeline - 3 Weeks
- Hunt of the Blood Moon - 8 Weeks
- Invasion - 3 Weeks
- Legend of the Poro King - 15 Weeks
- Nemesis Draft - 1 Week
- Nexus Blitz - ???
- Nexus Siege - 10 Weeks
- Odyssey: Extraction - 4 Weeks ???
- One for All - 8 Weeks
- One for All: Mirror Mode ???
- OVERCHARGE - 2 Weeks
- Snowdown Showdown - ???
- Ultra Rapid Fire - 2 Weeks
Just from the info that I could find, that totals up to around 102 weeks of rotating gamemodes, of which, I have no idea which was the last one.
Now don't get me wrong, people do enjoy TFT, at the time of me writing this, over 60k people are watching it on Twitch. Hell, I even did the missions enough to be able to get both of the mystery emote tokens.
But I actually can't understand wanting to design a fun and fast gamemode, having the potential in front of you and instead making.... auto chess.
You've done right recently with upgrading the death recap, but saying we don't play TT enough, so you're removing it... hurts.
I'd like to say I'm just an Aram player.
I'm not some hardcore Twisted Treeline player, I did do some ranked with my buds in it back in the day but we didn't ever get far. Just like dominion, you're not only removing a gamemode because it's not popular. You're also removing the enjoyment of being able to relive those memories by removing the ability to play ON those maps and modes.
Will I stop playing league because of this? Probably not.
I'm too addicted to this game to probably ever quit, but I can say that with new game releases around the corner (I'm looking at you Borderlands 3 you sexy mofo), that I'm relieved that I'll have something else to enjoy, cause league is slowly killing my enjoyment.
Let's assume that Riot isn't the small indie company that we all make them out to be. They've been killing memes as of late, so let's kill this one.
Upgrade the client to be able to support the Rotating Gamemodes again.
