The matchmaking system is flawed
Hello, I am curious as too why I am placed where I am. Last season I finished silver 3. Preseason I moved up to silver 1, then in the new seasons placements I went 8-2. Somehow after all that work to try and improve my mmr/rank, I still get placed silver 4. My question then is what must I do to improve my rank, because consistently winning games does not seem to do that. My first game after placements, I get 2 bronze players in my game, and although my mid-lane (Diana) gets a massive 7-0 lead pre-15 mins. My bronze top laner losses lane massively, and my bronze jungler feeds uncontrollably (going 1-9). How am I expected to improve my rank under these conditions? Especially when I tried so hard to improve my own gameplay so I wouldn't have to deal with players who are clearly not on the same level as myself. Quite frankly, not even in the same ballpark. Overall this has been extremely discouraging and I know losing one player means nothing to the Riot team but, I enjoy the game and I feel like I being slighted at every turn.
This is what I wrote as a ticket to the riot support team. I spoke to 2 different representatives and was given the following info.
First of all, congratulations on winning 8 out of your 10 games for placements! Now, I know that getting placed on a rank that was lower to your previous rank can be a little confusing but please know that the placements system doesn't base off of your previous rank but it is based on your MMR, I hope this clarifies your question regarding placements.
Oh man, that's tough, I know sometimes people will have a bad game and there can be times that you will be in one of those kinds of games. A lot of us struggle just to try and win and make the game count.
Well, I'll give you a personal tip whenever I see myself losing a lot of games, sometimes when I get a bunch of lose from ranked I go to ARAM and just chill there for a bit and go back to ranked when I feel like I'm ready to play again.
I know that doesn't really work for everyone but hey no worries, I believe in you! You will be placed on a higher rank! :)
Now, whenever you encounter your fellow summoners who are being toxic you can go ahead and report them through our post-game report function. we value your reports and we take appropriate action!
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
I go on to explain that I have evidence from multiple sites (one affiliated with op.gg) stating that my mmr is gold 4. Thus my question then is, if MMR is so important when it comes to getting ranked, then why am I silver 4 after winning 8-10 provisional games, having an MMR in gold 4, and finishing last season and preseason higher than silver 4?
I would better comprehend getting placed, silver 2 or even silver 3 (even though I find this a stretch), but silver 4?
Winning 8 out of 10 of your provisional games is indeed amazing and I admire you for that.
However, since the new season is technically a "soft reset" of ranks it's kind of a given that you will receive a lower rank than what you had before.
Do keep in mind that someone's visual rank doesn't necessarily reflect someone's MMR. Having straight wins will boost your MMR to a really high number.

I believe in you! You can get back to your previous rank or even higher easily. =)
Best of luck to your future games!
Again with the MMR talking point... My MMR is Gold 4. I find the last 2 lines of this quote the most tilting and frustrating, because while I know I can climb back up, it will be 1000x harder because I'm playing with players almost 4 ranks below my MMR and the disparity in their performance vs someone who is actually at my MMR is enormous. Not only that, but does anyone know the amount of games I played last season to get from silver 4 to silver 2? Over 200+ games of grinding my heart out to improve as a player for the system to basically say "you have not improved, you actually have regressed."
I truly hope I am not the only player out there in this situation, and in fact, I know I am not.
Edit: I messed up the poll and it will not allow me to fix it, so just leave your comments on how you feel about the matchmaking system.
