Riot can just pretty much make mistake after mistake without it mattering simply cuz the playerbase has nowhere else to go.

Damage too high? doesn't matter.

Garbage client? doesn't matter.

Vision too weak? doesn't matter

They can buff pyke over and over and pull any bullshit out of their skinny asses simply because there aren't any damn consequenses.

Fuck this poor excuse of a game and this fucking company who can't bother to sell their game so others can take better care of it.

Instead they would rather turn it into shit

Fuck it. I'm staying with MK11 for now.

I tire of seeing "unpopular opinion" on things everybody thinks.

That said there's a 2nd reason LoL doesn't die, which is that people have put so much time into it they wouldn't want to "restart" with new moba.

Essentially every isometric moba that is ever made at this point is doomed to fail because the people who already have hundreds of hours, tons of things unlocked, rank earned,etc. in LoL and DotA aren't going to want to switch to a new game and start from scratch. It's happened a bunch of times already; good games that could have been great died because the moba playerbase wouldn't move regardless of what the new game was like.

So it's not a question of when will real competition kill League, League has to die before there can be real competition.

I agree, Dota 2 is super anti-beginner so a lot of people refuse to play it. It seems really good and the developers definitely care about the game so I think I'm going to transition there. League just lately feels like Riot pushing out patch after patch trying to grab as much money as possible without a care for the health of the game or what the players think.

They had competition.

Back when league was new they were competing directly with DotA and Heroes of Newarth. (Any other olds remember that HoN was censored in the old forums?)

After that there was EA's failed game, Dawngate IIRC. And then there's Smite, and DotA 2, and Heroes of the Storm. They're still around but not nearly as popular. And that's just the ones I can remember, I bet there's a bunch more.

I don't care for what League has become but they stand tall over a hell of a lot of mobas.

You're telling me League's playerbase is willing to deal with issues like a terrible client, unreasonably high damage, poor champion balance, and weak vision among other things with absolutely no other redeemable factors SOLELY because the learning curve in Dota 2 is slightly difficult? Um okay. Seems plausible.

I detest Riot and all of their recent decisions regarding balance just as much as the next person, but don't kid yourself into thinking that there's no competition. That's flat out incorrect.

Really says something when competition exists, but you put League as the best without question as the basis of your argument. You can't do that and also complain legitimately, as much as I'm sure you're just venting.

You have accepted, League of Legends, even when declining, is massively above anything else that it is not even competition. Even though there exists objectively, competition. MOBAs decline the longer they go on, that's natural, you begin to overload your content or creativity. Sometimes it's also technological barriers of course, however you have to accept that people are still trying to make the game better.

Those people in the Pantheon video working on him, do you think they care so much about the money? I doubt it. As long as they have their agreed paychecks, their primary focus was on making Pantheon cool, they got into it because they like it. Not some ulterior agenda. You are free to play whatever you like, just enjoy what you do. It's your life, don't waste it being miserable.

Between Smite, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, and to a degree Overwatch League has had plenty of competition. People's crippling addiction to this game are a bigger problem than the lack of competition.

Oh and as for the OP's topic, I'd say that if Valve ever actually advertised their game, there would be actual competition. But they don't, so there isn't.

I have already sunk too much time/energy/cost into league to abandon it for another moba it is true. But when do play other mobas I never think "o wow this so much better than League". Look... I played a fuck ton of dota 1 back in the day and if dota 2 came out before League I am sure 1. League wouldn't be as popular as it is now & 2. I would have played Dota 2 instead. But due to timing... I have never played dota 2. And honestly a big reason other than mechanics that don't sound fun to me to learn is I think it just looks like shit.... idk why I just get kinda grossed out watching people play it. Especially compared to League now.

But like I tried Smite and find it just extremely boring. I just don't like the way the game played. I also have played Heroes and although I think it's a good game I get beyond bored as fuck after only a few games especially alone. The game is so team dependent it makes me crazy. I always liked in league you could out cs your opponents for gold, had your own levels, items, etc. You have literally none of that in HoTs.

No they would put up a fight with all of the resources they have. They would release actual content to keep fans in. Looking back since they were calm and sure that no one is going anywhere they just spoon-fed us whatever the wanted. They can do so so much but they only do skins champions and now little legends. Is all they do.

It takes MONTHS, possibly even a year of consistent playing to get an idea on what all champions do within a moba and how you can avoid dying from their abilities because: you know what they do and who they are. The reason I feel so confident playing against champions I main is because I know EXACTLY what they do, and I can guess what they'll try to do next.

I still don't know 100% how all League champs work and I've been playing for years now. I spent so much time learning this awful game and I don't want to spend that time learning DOTA.

I'm level 137 on Heroes of the Storm and I STILL have no clue what most of the champions do except the ones I play, because I haven't put nearly the same time into HoTS as I've put into League.

League would just copy the competition. I liked League because it was slower, methodical, and required strategy; the opposite of Heroes of the Storm. Guess what Riot did? Turned it into HoTS.
