Hex-tech chests feel like they are less rewarding

So I wondered if anyone else felt this way about the hex-tech crafting boxes. When they first came out I thought it was kind of cool that, while they were random, if you played well with several champions you could earn some for free. After earning a few I did eventually buy some and while I never did get any of the unique stuff for them, but I honestly don't blame Riot for that.

I find that they have become less appealing as more and more "rewards" are added to the list of drops. It feels like it's just not worth the risk anymore. I have in my loot 35 (2 legendary & 3 Epic) different champion skins I don't want, 4 ward skins, and 2700 orange essence I have no use for. And out of the 50~ish boxes I've opened (counting event unique ones) I have only earned 6 gemstones and never have I received one of the chance to contain drops.

The odds just feel too low to be worth it when I can buy for about the same price in RP an epic skin I know I will use vs if I disenchant 4 epic skin shards I would be able to unlock 1 epic skin shard I have, but at that point why not just buy the one you want from the store directly since those crates most likely won't all contain epic+ skins.

On top of all this you can still earn champ shards in them. I can't tell you how many times I've earned a chest and it contains 1 champ shard.
