Support mains speak up!

Hello to all you support mains! What do you guys think of this new support item change? Isn’t it ridiculous that you can have a fully built support item and not be able to ward because the quest has yet to be completed? and not only that, should you complete it in lane, you then have to recall to charge it up? I feel this is unfair for many reasons. Should you be winning lane, you are unable to provide vision for your team. Should you be losing lane due to incompetent lane partners or heavy poke, you are not able to harass the enemy ( blue item) therefore completing the quest takes longer . Should you be losing lane but save what little money you do have to rush vision item and prevent ganks, you are still not able to play safe. ( Tower diving enemies on you) I very much liked the idea of an extra slot being freed up, but bad execution of denying vision early game. Does anyone else feel this way? I’ve been playing league for six years and I don’t mind that they change things, I can get used to this as well, but it seems... dumb... to make your supports not be able to provide good vision placement... Seeing as how the whole map is dark . Riot please remember that placing wards stops a gank... and saves a life. XD couldn’t help myself. Speak up! :)

I wish they would give me more charges on the sightstone, or allow the charges to regenerate over time, why do i gotta go all the way back to base to do my job with warding???? i ALSO wish i could put down more than 3 invisible wards........i have 4 charges......should be able to have down 4 wards at once...............

you have wards instead of building ruby sightstone meaning you can build other items faster quit crying

its bullshit...

i mean im sure the adc's like it becuase it forces the idoit support who dont play properly to get a sightstone

but losing the actives on item 3312 and the speed boost from the tribute, as well as the 20% item cdr on ruby sightstone.. is a fucking nightmare. its ruins all the fun of support.

and dont even get my started "eye of frost's" "upgrade" which gives 860 gold worth of stats and charges you 950... as well as delaying your next item..

what a fucking joke

you expect me to upgrade eye of frost into item 3092 shit??

you expect me to pay 950 gold for 15 more ap and 200 hp? thats 860 gold worth of stats

and no i dont fucking care about the 4th ward slot.. you fucking took that away when you removed ruby sightone.. just like to took away everything else that made support worth maining...

fuck you can your stupid fucking change

I think the worst part is the reduced gold income from support items now. Now we don't have to buy sightstone, fine, but the gold we would have spent on it is pretty much the same value we get out of the quests.

Ancient coin no longer gives coins on champion kills and assists, meaning -40 gold and a tonne of mana lost per takedown. Spellthiefs no longer takes away the penalty for CSing when you complete the quest, and they pumped up the penalty so that taking even one minion from your adc loses you 10-15 gold, and extra poke damage. Oh, and are you trying to keep your tower alive by pushing a minion wave alone? Good luck getting frostfang ever working again. Relic Shield users are the only ones relatively unchanged by this, except for poor Thresh who now cannot even heal effectively with the item.

Overall I'd like the new items. They really shouldnt have removed the old actives (i never used them but i get that others did) and ruby ss item cdr needs to be buildable on something again. My main issue is now that we need to invest in one of the supp item lines, the coin line needs massive upgrades. It's the only starting item to offer cdr but its tier 3 item is absolute trash and would never be built on anyone except maybe soraka.

Also idk what you mean by having to recall to charge it, doesnt it gain 1 charge upon upgrading?

Um. Ive been player support since before rivens release (pretty far back)

Pros

Keep in mind, as phreak stated in his patch rundown(around 36 mins he starts discussing his view of the support changes. Keep in mind this was before the patch was released so he may have altered his opinion on some things), upgrading these into item 3069 item 3092 is NOT worth it unless you value that 4th ward at like 800 gold.

With this, you also don't have to spend 800 gold for sightstone, you just get it at the same cost of the old coin/fang path.

This means that supports actually got a huge buff. Now you can simply get your 500g item and go straight for the rest of your core(item 3504 item 3107 item 3190 etc for example.)

Sure there may have been some lost power with items like item 3312 not having their active here atm, but honestly, It should have only been built by you in specific cases. ( such as wanting to disengage, or catch people out) item 3306 was the same way, where its purpose was for one use, hard engage to match champions that needed the ms. If you're teammates wouldn't need it, it wasn't a necessary item.

Remember, Old supporting with item 3311 meant that you had to get 500g back from the item to pay for itself+800g to get to sightstone.( unless you were to rush sighstone, which would cost ~1175) The current item, is only 500 total, and your already at 3 wards.

One point you mentioned was that, yes, you do not get 3 wards until you back after the quest completion. But consider that you had to go back in the old system to get sight stone anyways. Currently, you can almost always have 500g by the first time you back/die.

But it used to be that you needed at least 800g to get sightstone, and if you had 700, you either had to buy something else and wait another 5 minutes with poor vision, or wait for 100 gold.

Cons

Alright, so that was all the good stuff. The part I don't currently like about the support changes is the loss in early item choice. Support builds feel very similar throughout most games, with backing occuring as soon as it may be convenient for my marksman to get vision items and start towards item 3107 /item 3504 .

The other con that I really have in mind is that going from item 3098 to item 3092 /item 3069 can be a total noob trap. The combine cost can be atrocious compared to, as Ive mentioned before, what you get out of it.(mostly a 4th ward.)

But the pros do stack against the cons I would say.

In all, I would consider the changes positive. Although I do hope that in the next patch or two we get some other itemization mix up from the standard item 3222 item 3190 item 3107 item 3158 item 3096 item 3504 that has become apparent in this patch.
