Any other ranged junglers out there?

Besides Nidalee and Kindred? Jungling isn't my strongest role and I wanna practice it just in case. However, I have absolutely no interest in tanks/melee/assassins whatsoever. Even in laning, I always pick ranged champions out of personal preferences, and the only melee I could think of picking is Katarina.

I love Nidalee's kit, but for some reason I just can't take her into competitive plays. Every time I play nidalee, I face against junglers like Lee Sin or Ekko who invaded my jungle (I don't die from it but I'm forced to recalled => slowing me down). Plus, I feel like nobody really sees Nidalee jungler as a 'threat'. She's squishy and she requires too much keen details in order to apply less damage than some of the junglers like lee sin or elise. For ganking, most of the time I did well, but I don't see myself snowball from the profits I get. I might not have been playing her correctly but I don't see myself as a successful nidalee jungler yet.

For Kindred, I like the character, but something about their kit doesn't really click with me. I know kindred's got great damage potential, but they aren't exactly burst, so half of the time enemies just got into safety before I could take them down. But mainly, I just don't like their kit that much.

Me & Fiddlestick don't hang that well, lol.

So any other fun (preferably mage) junglers that utilize their RANGE instead of going in like Elise? I know the role is limited for ranged and more for melees, but I'm hoping there could be more ranged junglers than just the mentioned above.

what would be her routine in the jungle? If you can give me some insights, and possible what would you do if enemy jungler invade you, seeing that she probably won't clear jungle as fast as other melees.

Quinn jungle is actually really fun and VERY STRONG right now. You start on whichever side your bot lane is on for the strong leash. I start on my actual buff now if they have a good early game jungler like LeeSin Elise so i don't get screwed by the level 2 invade. Her clear isn't bad at all and you take very little damage if your kiting is good. Her W is one of the best jungle skills in my opinion, the free vision is an extremely useful tool. If some melee jungler is stupid enough to invade you, good. Quinn easily outplays just about every melee jungle champ. It's close to impossible to do anything in a 1v1, you can kite them all day long. If you mess up and they get on you, you can just E off them and get the space back. Your Q-AA-E-AA combo is gonna drop pretty much everyones health down to nothing. Then once you hit 6 the real fun starts, you can be everywhere at once. Once you hit 6 you're gonna want to counterjungle like a mad man and take advantage of your crazy mobility. Your ganks are extremely deadly if your laners brings hard CC but even with no CC you're gonna be able to instagib any squishy champ.

I like to builditem 3009 item 3508 item 1400 item 3031 item 3087 item 3812. I usually rush for my jungle item but I don't finish my warrior enchant until AFTER essence reaver.

nice elaboration. Thanks for your insight. It does make sense and I love utilizing my ranged against melee champions. Seems like she's gonna be a fun try.

A little more into the combat side, which she's okay, but probably not my playstyle

What is your playstyle?

I play champs like Lux, Cait, Ahri, etc. So you kinda get the point. Utilizing given range to fight and kite, worrying about position and landing skillshots. Nidalee was super fun, but in jungle i can't feel the UMPH impact like she used to be when she was still laning. Of course, I can't say that's my final verdict of Nidalee; I know some pros can work her to the fullest potential.

Unfortunately it's hard to recommend any jungler to you with that kind of playstyle. Junglers aren't allowed to be passive champions because a big part of their job is snowballing their lanes and to do that you need to have some sort of all-in - you can't gank a lane by spending 30 seconds throwing out poke because it's just massively lacking in effectiveness when the enemy jungler is actually going all-in and getting kills because of it. Your problem with Nidalee is likely that jungle Nidalee doesn't get her effectiveness just from landing spears - she needs to use her cougar form, and do risky stuff like counter-jungling.

Most champions jungle because of one of these reasons:

  • they can snowball their lanes early with strong all-ins (melee assassins)
  • they can safely farm during their weak early game to become a huge carry later (melee ADCs)
  • they can safely farm during their weak early game to become a strong teamfighter (tanks)

If you're unwilling to play a champion that needs to get aggressive to do their job effectively then I honestly think you're best off ignoring jungle as a role because even ranged junglers like Quinn and Kindred take a lot of risks. Your only option is trying to make weird stuff like Karma jungle work but frankly I think that'd be a waste of your time. Stick with your lanes or try to get comfortable with an aggressive playstyle.

You could always be the Invader on nidalee you know. . Some champs like nidalee and rengar are weak to invaders but also strong invaders as well.

Vayne If you're feeling crazy and your vayne mechanics are on fleek.

I've been really wanting to try Bard jungle. His kit seems so much better suited for jungling VS supporting. You can actually roam to get your chimes, his low CD Q is great for invading, ganking, and farming. He's got sustain. His E can save so much time on farming routes, allows for fun dragon/baron/buff steals, creative ganks, and clever baits. His AA's also hurt like a mofo once you have a good amount of meeps. item 1402 seems to synergize pretty well with his kit. His ult has way too many uses, my personal favorite is ulting the tower for an easy dive.

Poop Jelly1 votes

I used to vayne jungle in like 2 seasons ago... lol. I want a jungler that can deal with early-mid game pressure. Lemme know how Bard works out, I'm sort of skeptical about that though.

darkmatchwaldo1 votes

I'll probably try it today, i'll definitely let you know. I think quinn suits what you're looking for though. She can hold her own vs invaders, she can invade herself, she can gank well, you can split push better than any other champ, she can pick people off like an assassin, or straight up 1v1 duel. You have a lot of options for buildpaths depending on what your team needs from you, she's just a solid pick. She's also a great flex pick for draft/ranked. They'll counterpick for top/mid/adc never guessing you're going JG until it's too late.

Alright well i got some interesting results from the game. The playmaking possibilities are huge, it really was a lot of fun. The early clears were PAINFULLY slow. Doesn't help that my bot lane messed up the leash, took my xp, then left me out to dry. Once i got item 3115 item 1402 finished they were a lot better but damn the first 3 or so clears sucked. But i can not emphasize how much freakin fun it was, definitely not super viable but if you're feelin silly and you just wanna have fun go for it. Wound up building item 3115 item 3020 item 1402 item 3285 item 3110 before the game ended. The burst off the Q-AA was NUTS, i was 3 shotting their Yasuo all day long. The Ult plays were just as clutch as i expected. The E was insanely useful at all stages of the game, especially for counterganks. Didn't do too great at 6/10/18 but the utility i brought managed to clinch the game along with our Annie dropping mad AOE on their team, time after time i managed to catch their Caitlyn with my ult setting up Annie to one shot Cait. The other team had a lead in gold from 2:00 to the very end at 48:00, at one point it was an 8.9k lead. Somehow we managed to pull it off, mostly because they would chase after me at low health and i'd bait them into Annie. All in all i'd give the Bard jungle maybe a 6.5/10. Definitely a blast to play, can work in the right comp, but not exactly viable.

Poop Jelly1 votes

Haha nice to see the results. I've always prepared that ranged jungler will most likely not have a godlike score, unlike some lee-sins with the go-getter kits. As long as you help the team and you can see that u're an impact, not just some "you can be there or not" kind of champion (Nidalee when she's behind...).

Sounds fun but I wanna know is there a competitive possibility to use bard as a business as usual jungler? How's his late game?

darkmatchwaldo1 votes

I will most definitely be using him some more. I can see it being a really good niche pick. His late game is where he shines. Early game is kinda rough but once you get through it you're golden. His mid game is solid since chimes have been spawning for awhile, i was planning my routes around the chimes on the map. Knowing i could invade, get some vision, and steal some camps since i had like 8 chimes in that side of his jungle. If he ran up on me, i'd grab a chime, float over to the wall, E through, then turn and stun him as he tried to follow and grab some more chimes as i floated away. His W works really well as a movespeed steroid if you're being chased. But late game, oh my. I can see him having a few different build paths but i went for a spellblade/ludens proc kinda build with huge burst. Once you get item 3285 item 3115 item 1402 item 3020 built you can assassinate squishy targets with ease. I can't wait to see what it does with a item 3089 or item 3135 instead of item 3110. There's just so many possibilities for late game shenanigans. The other reason i liked it so much is when you hit late game it's REALLY hard to siege on him if he's turtled in base. With his 3 second CD Q and meep empowered autos he can hold off baron'd up supers like a BOSS. They got two barons throughout the game and barely cracked open our base. When they funnel into the base is a perfect time to ult and give your team time to set up an easy wombo.

Teemo Its fun to see people rage at how shrooms are actually around the map instead of just near one side of the map. It actually works, takes a bit of skill but so far the 4 games ive done, ive always done better then the more "meta" junglers i face.

darkmatchwaldo1 votes

It's so hilarious to do your first camp, go straight for the buff they didn't start, sit there and wait for them, smite steal their buff and then kill them cause they're low. I cry every timitem 3070

Seeing all these secondary junglers and no Fiddlesticks is kinda sad.

Poop Jelly1 votes

I can't play him... lol. I feel bad for the opponent when I'm doing too well, but I just don't like Fidd as my supposedly backbone jungler.

Rebonack1 votes

As weird as it sounds, Kog can do a full clear in a decent amount of time and finish with full HP if you run 18/6/6 and balls to the walls attack speed runes on him.

Only downside is that you're then left with less than stellar Kog ganks. A giant AoE slow field isn't bad as far as ganking tools go, but it isn't the best either.

Poop Jelly1 votes

I'll have to try that. Though I like champs that work with a combo better. Thanks for info tho =]
