New Poppy vs Old Poppy

Overall she has a similar kit, but here are some of the comparisons:

Passive:

  • Her passive is good for pegging people trying to escape or to slow them with DMP/Frozen Mallet, it also gives her a godly sustain in jungle with the hunters potion when she gets some tanky items. In team fights this has little to no effect because you will have a hard time picking it up when everyone is scrambling. In general it is hard to pick it up when it lands near a wall or on top of a unit. Her old passive gave her a lot of innate tankiness and was really hard to gauge, it made turret diving her a nightmare, but it also made her more durable in team fights.

Q:

  • Her Q is now an aoe skill shot, it deals more max hp damage than her old one if both proc, but it has a microscopic aoe. It doesn't have as much burst as the original Q, her original Q also allowed APC Poppy to be a thing and gave her the two shot Poppy Title in tandem with her ultimate. Its a neat aoe and good for clears, but in dueling it is pretty lackluster because it is pretty hard to keep someone stuck there.

W:

  • It doesn't give AD anymore but stops one dash (not blinks like flash/ezreal's e/kassadin) and it gives her potentially more late game tankiness than her old W. It now gives a much shorter speed boost duration and has nothing to scale other than the speed and potential damage if someone tries to dash. If the enemy team has no dashes, she loses a portion of her kit because it will do nothing. It is a one point wonder, old Poppy would max this after Q because of the AD/Armor stacking, but the power shifted to her E. You need to have more than 291 Armor to get more resistance than the original one when you have above 40% max hp, and you will need 145 armor below 40%. Her old W gave her no magic resistance, but it was better for kiting/catching up to people and gave her more armor and along with her old passive she was tankier.

E:

  • The same exact thing except it now deals physical damage, scales with her physical attack, and has a longer duration stun at max rank, power shifted to this ability instead of her W from new to old.

Ultimate:

  • Old ultimate was one of the scariest ultimates you can ever be slapped with, no one can save you other than you if you get targeted by her, and you can't cleanse it with QSS (you only removed the damage amp but not her immunity). Poppy could have used this to take out her target with a giant damage amplification or other targets since they can't touch her. The visual effect for her ultimate was always bugged and made it look like she had a longer duration. She could ult someone and she had a good chance at getting someone or a couple people along the way. The problem was it had absolutely no counter play unless you peel her if she targets you. Her new ultimate is another trolling gamble, you can do a lot of good with it, or you can screw your entire team over by knocking everyone about to die far far away to safety. It has the Bard/Tahm syndrome, you are probably going to cause a lot more harm than good with it.

This is all of course at the beginning of her rework, we can't conclude anything yet and we have to see how it fares out later, she feels roughly the same but a bit weaker so she can bring a lot of potential utility that can mess up both teams.

Thoughts?

Her new stuff doesn't really match up with the rest of her kit. She doesn't know if she wants to go in or stand back and poke.

I agree, her new kit does lack cohesion as her original kit had.

I don't see it like a lack if cohesion I see it more like versatility, she can stand back and poke/peel and she can dive really well,

Her old kit was super unfair and un fun to play against, and I'm enjoying playing with and against her new kit, it kinda reminds me of a maokai with more damage

Superficially, at least, it appears the same.

What is accomplishes is very different, though.

Her old kit was a 1v5 hard carry build with a huge amount of damage if she got onto you.

New Poppys is... I'm not really sure. It seems like she's supposed to have huge amounts of peel, and I suppose she does that well, but it only seems like something that will work well in teamfights, not so much in the laning phase. She also seems like she's supposed to be a damage threat, but her primary damaging ability, her Q, can't even clear the caster minions with both hits.

Maokai seems to me to have more CC, be tankier and have more damage than new Poppy.

From what I can see, she's mainly a niche anti-dive comp pick.

Let me put it to you this way:

Old Poppy was SO TOXIC that she wasn't even part of the weekly free champion rotation. There's another champion right now still left in that same situation.

Which champ? Yorick maybe?
