Merc/QSS isn't really worth getting against Zed, it just cleanses his ult, and also Zhonyas at 7 minutes isn't a thing. AND WHY CAN'T PEOPLE REALIZE, ZED'S CORE IS: item 3142 item 3074 item 3153 item 3071 item 3035 (Insert bewts here). ARMOR AIN'T SHIT. He's both an incredibly aggressive and safe laner. Superior poke to most mages despite lower CDs and being resourceless. He basically has the best of all worlds. He's also insanely safe because of his ultimate's free escape. Making it very hard to punish mistakes he makes. In fact "Safe" is the first word to come to mind for this champion. for an assassin Zed is entirely too safe.

On the case of Summoner Spell counters, summoner 3 may work good for stopping him from kicking your ass, but that won't stop him from blinking back with Ult reactivate. summoner 21 is good for baiting an all-in, but what I've been saying applies here. If he is in the slightest danger, he will blink back to safety.

I did say other AD mids, not to mention an item that completely eliminates someone's ult is pretty damn... awesome. Kinda useful.

I'll agree he is pretty safe, and pretty annoying. But his counters are... equally annoying. Annie Karthus kick his ass from what I hear (instant cc, and Karthus's passive/ult can screw Zed over).

Considering Urgot's Q can lock in if you land his E, he might be a viable counter to Zed once he's buffed.

I can't see Karthus being too big of a problem for Zed, even if he dives Karthus and kills him, he can just R out. I've played Midgot vs. Zed, it can be a good matchup, but good luck keeping him in range for your Qs after tagging him with E, even with W slow. Annie ... Yeah. But even then he can end up getting out if you're not quick on your heels. Even after eating a full combo and some tower shots+ignite. My mid main Viktor is at best a good matchup against him, and my off-main Anivia can also screw him up in dives real bad, also having to kill her twice puts him at a HUGE. disadvantage, and because of this passive it means he can't go all-in like he could under ordinary circumstances. Not only can she insta-stun him (His ult puts him behind you, use that to your advantage) and give him a devastating Q+E, as well as tower shots and ignite, the passive is really just the icing on the cake. Zed is a really good diver. Anivia makes it nigh impossible for him to utilize that diving potential.

Buying a Merc into Zed is kind of like buying Zonya's into Syndra. Sure it negates his ult and it's far from a bad item to build into him, but if you rush it you'll lose because you just wasted to much money on the wrong defensive stat.

Which kind of makes it impossible to play most ADs into Zed because of how overtuned his ult is when there's nothing to remove it.

Regardless, Zed just doesn't have too many counters pertaining to his early game outside of champion select (Counterpicking and Summoners). Come mid-late game and you'll have the items you need to face him, and even then you may not even be on the receiving end of his attacks.
