How to allow Leona to use her own passive without breaking her

Hey there gameplay boards

As a Leona main, of course, any time discussion pops up on the boards regarding her I am usually lurking, reading the discourse between my fellow Leona mains. One sentiment I often see, and agree with is that it kind of feels bad that you essentially do not have a passive without a teammate around. most of us (that I have seen anyway) feel like Leona needs a little love, I feel like this would be the perfect place to begin.

If Leona was simply allowed to proc her own passive, she would be absolutely broken. This is why I got creative and came up with a way to allow her to use her own passive while still giving an incentive to rely on teamwork. There are two ways I think you could go about this.

The first option is more simple and clear cut. When Leona lands an ability on an enemy that is already marked, instead of simply refreshing, it stacks up to three times. If an ally damages a marked enemy, no matter how many stacks you have, it will detonate for normal damage, clearing all stacks. If you get 3 stacks on an enemy then let the mark expire, it will burst, dealing the marks damage as if an ally had set it off. Leona would function exactly the same as support assuming an ally was around to follow up, but you would be able to utilize your own passive if you found yourself alone, either taking her in a solo lane or away from your adc for one reason or another.

"But Leona OP! This still leaves her without a functional passive until level 3! Muh agency!"

This is where the 2nd draft of this passive comes in. If you wanted to get a little more complicated with it, allow her stacks to burst when they expire no matter how many you have. 1/2/3 stacks dealing 25%/50%/100% of her passives normal damage, respectively. I am a little concerned about this path though, I cant see much wrong with that idea but we all know how the slightest number change can have drastic consequences.

I want to know what you guys think. For you Leona players, would this make her more satisfying to play? Does anyone have concerns about this being frustrating to play against in any way? Got a better Idea? Let's hear it then!

Sincerely

Leona OP

I'll make it a heck of a lot easier for you.

Leona can proc her own passive...

... But applies 50% of the damage it would have if an ally proc'd it.

Literally, her passive isn't some broke-ass CC ability, or crazy amounts of MS or dashes or flashes or minion summoning shenanigans. It's just numbers.

Don't make it more complex. Just start it at 50%, and buff or nerf down as necessary.

To be a Leona main, you should actually play Leona more than 28 games in two seasons. You are worried about proc'ing while pushing a lane. Get with your team, make a play, hold the enemy still and proc away. Let mid or top split push and do your damn job.

You can't.

OOR give leona that particular passive on lets say her W and then replace her current passive with something else.

Why not just put it on her ult?

Currently her ults is as followed:

Casting Solar Flare charges Leona's next 3/4/5 basic attacks with Incandescence, granting her bonus range and dealing bonus 30 / 40 / 50 (+ 15% AP)magic damage.

Why not changes this to

Casting Solar Flare charges Leona's next 3/4/5 basic attacks with Incandescence, granting her bonus range and procing sunlight.

If I felt like it was even necessary to add, it would work best as a timed pop. 3-hit passives are boring, stupid, and far too prevalent and if Leona gets one ability on you, she's gonna get 3 unless she's drunk or something. Something like after 6 seconds it pops for x% of normal. It would only execute extremely low health people even if X were 100 and would barely touch her DPS, but it would be noticeable extra damage in a top laning situation or if the adc is a PoS and afks. The math is something similar to the extra burn corrupting potion adds, which is noticeable but not really an "I won the lane cause of this" type of thing.

Animating it like a Bard heal pod would work and so would pulsing it at even intervals with a couple of smaller intervals at the end to make it easy to anticipate. In a typical teamfight, the most it would add at 100% damage is 500 damage divided among 5 enemies (105 Magic Damage at lvl 18).
