Lets not pretend he doesn't have counters rofl. Because there is Lissandra and Kayle, 2 very simple midlane champions everyone can play who beat him in lane and also offer alot more to their team. Fizz also beats him easily.

I believe the rage for zed is that in normals, you can't see that the other team has a zed. So you don't pick one of the three/four champions that can counter him, and instead pick, oh, yasuo. Then you get screwed for the rest of the game, because QSS is gone, and you can do literally nothing without dying. Except Run away, and that doesn't even work, most of the time

Lissandra can easily. Zed ults, she ults right back and he has to run away unless he is already massively ahead. The same with Kayle who can still dish out damage to him while her ult stops his but that's a bit more tricky with the time of her ult being shorter than Lissandra's.

that is true, but of the 137 champs, if 4 champs are the only things that can save you and an item restricted to only 1 variety of champs, that is poor design...
